Big Max Blade Trio Push Cart Review

Big Max Blade Trio Push Cart

Historically speaking, I haven’t been a big walking golfer as an adult. Most of my rounds were riding purely from the perspective and convenience, and a misinformed belief of navigating the course quicker. The only times you’d catch me walking were either with caddies or on some premiere golf course because I truly believed that the best way to “take in” a course is through walking. NOT via cart paths. Then the COVID pandemic hit. It was right when courses reopened and you were only allowed to walk. This is when I really discovered the value of a push cart. Prior to this, if I was walking (by myself), I was too cool for school and would just carry my bag. Returning to walking golf taught me to really appreciate a good push cart. Especially one that folds/unfolds as easy as the Big Max Blade Trio push cart.

What I’m about to say, I sincerely mean from the bottom of my heart. The Big Max Blade Trio push cart has the best “unfold to setup and fold back up to pack away” in golf thanks to its Autofold system. It doesn’t get any smoother, easier, and more compact than the Blade Trio in terms of quick and easy folding with minimal consumption of space. Big Max calls this “flat-fold technology” and the Blade Trio gets to a compact 27.9″ x 23.2″ x 8.2″ when folded.

Setup

Setting up the Big Max Blade Trio push cart is as easy as it gets thanks to the Autofold functionality. Interestingly, the Blade Trio comes packaged in a box that’s misleadingly large as the final product is much thinner once assembled. (I didn’t think to take a picture of this…). The cart comes fully assembled minus the two rear wheels which are easy enough to just pop on by holding down a button on the wheel and sliding it onto the axle. The most complicated thing is if you need to make some alignment adjustments. Should you find your Blade Trio veers right or left, you can use the provided allen wrench to correct it. It’s super easy to do.

The next step is understanding how to unfold/fold the cart. All you have to do is flip the red lever/switch by the front wheel. This initiates the Autofold mechanism where all three wheels pivot out and the cart takes shape. Make sure everything locks into place as you unfold, then just release the red lever on the cart’s spine and fold the handle out. At this point, just set the handle to a comfortable height for you and flip the lever back down to lock everything in place. You’re setup in literally seconds. All that’s left to do is throw your bag on the Blade Trio. Once you’re situated between the arms and base, wrap the straps around the top and bottom of the bag. Pull the straps tight to make sure your bag holds tight to the cart.

Built-In Storage

Keep in mind that the Big Max Blade Trio push cart is designed to be somewhat “minimalistic”. When I open the console to access the storage net/basket, I was genuinely impressed. There are adjustable straps that allow you to change the depth of the basket. Even with the straps about “halfway”, I was able to fit my 32oz water bottle, rangefinder, a couple of sleeves of balls, and some Nutri-Grain bars in it. With a little room to spare, I might add. There are also two small mesh pockets on the sides that are great for holding a couple loose golf balls and/or your keys. One thing I really appreciate about this console storage is that it’s soft so you have some flexibility with what it will hold. I really found myself appreciating this storage.

I wouldn’t mind some secondary built-in storage, but given the minimalist design, I can understand it. Fortunately, Big Max offers a wide range of peripheral accessories. That said, I’m not sure Big Max makes additional storage nets that fit this frame yet. There are still multiple Quik Lok accessories to help free up some space in the basket. The beverage holder is a fan favorite and the Quik Lok range finder case has my attention.

On-Course Performance

I’m not sure if it’s a fair on-course performance measurement, but I can’t stress enough how good the Big Max Blade Trio’s Autofold is. Being able to hop out of the car and having the cart ready to go with a snap of the fingers is incredible. Pair that with the Flat-Fold allowing the Blade Trio to be stored in tight spaces, you’re in great shape. As far as actual on-course performance, the Blade Trio is easy to push and the handle is a comfortable size. It tracks well and rolls smoothly. The single footbrake was strong and reliable on all slopes and terrains.

If there was one thing I’d nitpick on, I wouldn’t mind a little longer and wider wheelbase. However, doing so would likely impact the efficiency of Autofold and Flat Fold. I love those two things so much, I’m not sure I’m willing to possibly sacrifice them for a wheelbase change.

I also made sure to test the Blade Trio with both a Big Max bag and a handful of other brands. Big Max carts and bags are designed to fit each other perfectly so I naturally had to check that. Rest assured, they still do and the Big Max Dri Lite Feather stand bag dropped right in. As with any push cart and stand bag, just make sure you utilize the leg lock straps. Of course, if you don’t have a Big Max bag, the Blade Trio will still be able to handle it. Admittedly, there are endless different sizes and shapes out there that could prove me wrong, but all of the bags I tested from my garage were a breeze. They fit just fine and I had no issues.

Final Thoughts – Big Max Blade Trio Push Cart

I’m super picky about push carts. Finding the right compromise of features and performance can be tricky. You just sort of know when you find them and get the push cart on the course. For me, it was when I got out of my car and unfolded the Big Max Blade Trio in the parking lot. It was just so smooth and easy. My on-course experience was that the Blade Trio was sturdy and easy to push on a course that isn’t exactly one of the easier routes you’ll walk. But we got the job done 18,000 steps later and I was back in the driver’s seat of my car within seconds of hitting the parking lot post round. If minimal storage space and easy setup are important to you in a push cart, definitely check out the Big Max Blade Trio.
