Breakthrough Golf Technology Brava Shaft
Breakthrough Golf Technology (BGT) is best known for their putter shafts, but now they’re expanding into driver and fairway wood golf shafts, too. Looking to parlay their success from greens to tee boxes, BGT has introduced the Breakthrough Golf Technology Brava wood shaft. Designed for maximum distance and tight dispersion, the Brava’s packed with tech like Toray carbon fiber and Speedflite NRG technology to stack up with some of the industry’s top performing shafts. This lightweight shaft packs a punch that’s immediately noticeable.
The Looks
The Brava shaft simply looks fantastic. The black and bronze colorway is simple, yet aesthetically pleasing. Clean white lettering and slightly raised graphics really pop and stand out. Just below the grip, the Brava logo is minimalist with a somewhat futuristic font that gives this shaft that premium and cutting edge feel.
Breakthrough Golf Technology left the midsection of the shaft exposed to give you a clear look and feel of the Speedflite NRG zone. This section is designed to minimize lag allowing the ball to explode off the face. Moving down the shaft to the tip section, the matte black finish fades seamlessly into the bronze color that nicely rounds out the sleek look of BGT’s flagship wood shaft.
How Does It Feel?
Stability has been the foundation of Breakthrough Golf Technology’s products since the beginning. The Breakthrough Golf Technology Brava follows suit as this shaft feels super stable in hand and promotes a true sense of confidence that golfers are looking for. I found the Brava was a great combination of rigidity and support in a light profile with a stiffer flex.
In the handle and midsection, the Brava feels very firm thanks to the Speedflite NRG zone. Speedflite NRG minimizes lag and helps increase smash factor by making the shaft more consistent at release. Below this zone of exposed carbon weave, the tip section is where I felt the most flex during my swing. The flex profile is somewhat gradual which I personally felt helped me strike the center of the face more consistently. This may be due to the Toray carbon fiber which BGT says minimizes club face oscillation so you can confidently return the club to address during your swing.
At impact, the responsiveness of the Brava is impressive. The feel was smooth, powerful, and explosive off of center-face strikes. On mishits I could instantly feel where I missed; whether off the toe or heel the feedback was very evident.
On-Course Performance
Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
107.1 | 160.7 | 14.7º | 2834 | 263.4 | 269.6 |
During my testing of the Breakthrough Golf Technology Brava on the driving range as well as during several rounds, I found my confidence with the driver to increase significantly. The Brava is a mid-high launch and mid-spin profile. Ball flights during my testing showed just that. Personally, my spin numbers were a tad higher than I’d prefer but this is mainly due to my negative angle of attack that tends to inflate those numbers. However, with the Brava I was able to hit a variety of shots with confidence. During one of my rounds with the Brava in hand, the wind was howling and I was able to hit lower, more piercing shots if necessary. On the flip side, the shaft was fantastic at hitting high, mid spinning shots to ride the stream if I needed to.
Something BGT promises with the Brava is more consistency in finding the center of the face. This doesn’t only give you more distance, but it also delivers a tighter dispersion as well. While I didn’t necessarily see a massive jump in distance, I did see more center strikes on the face. My shots were staying on line and had a much better flight. On my best shots, I did see a small increase in carry distance but 10 yards may be a stretch. However, the consistency and feel I found was more beneficial to my game than a few more yards off the tee. Ill take more fairways hit over a few extra yards any day.
Final Thoughts – Breakthrough Golf Technology Brava Shaft
Breakthrough Golf Technology’s newest addition to their shaft family, the Brava, is a high-performing wood shaft that follows in the footsteps of stability from BGT’s successful putter shafts. The Brava is a reliable and excellent shaft for a variety of swing speeds and golfers of multiple playing indexes. Its uniform flex profile provided me a consistent and more confident swing…and a few more yards and fairways along the way. If you’re looking for a mid-high ball flight in a lightweight profile, the BGT Brava may be exactly what you’re looking for.
I think the bold claim to beat Autoflex by 10 yards was the selling point. As AF already beat most shaft by 15 yds already. I own both, other than feel they were both perform about the same for me.
