Breakthrough Golf Technology Stability Tour Fire Putter Shaft

BGT Stability Tour Fire

Breakthrough Golf Technology originally introduced their Stability putter shaft with the intent of creating a more stable shaft that’s a better match for modern putters. This shaft reduced torque, but also was quite a bit heavier and really impacted overall feel. Based on feedback from Tour players, BGT released a slimmer version known as the Stability Tour. The Stability Tour made for a closer transition from traditional steel to something similarly balanced, yet more stable. As time went on, BGT made the Stability Tour available in different colors. The latest color offered is the new Stability Tour Fire.

The Looks

BGT’s Tour profile is slimmer than their standard Stability shaft model. Though larger than a traditional steel shaft, the Stability Tour has a thinner profile and a more familiar look to the eye. What sets the Stability Tour Fire apart is its rich fire engine red sparkle finish. It looks really good, especially when it’s popping in the sunlight. For whatever it’s worth, this is by far my favorite finish yet from Breakthrough Golf Technology. The contrast of the black connector and black steel extension is really slick as well.

Feel 10

How Does it Feel?

BGT built the Stability Tour with “30% more high modulus graphite” which creates a softer and more responsive feel. As part of their efforts to increase stability, the original Stability shaft was a little harsher and muted. The Stability Tour models have a softer feel with better feedback that’s a better match for putting. At least, that’s my opinion.

With Stability in the name, you should expect a certain level of firmness. While the response is good, you should expect the putter to feel a little more rigid. This helps keep the putter head from wanting to twist so you have better control and accuracy. I’ve found this to be especially beneficial in larger mallet heads.

On-Course Performance

The lack of evolution in putter shafts over the decades while putter heads definitely have evolved is a very real thing, and only a few brands have tried to do something about it. Breakthrough Golf Technology is one of them. I’ve had a few Breakthrough Golf Technology Stability Tour shafts now and I’ve certainly found them to give me more control and a smoother putting stroke. The rigidity makes it easier to control the putter head and I get a clean roll on the ball. This gives me more confidence in the putter itself and more consistency on the green.

Regardless of which BGT shaft option you go with, you should expect to go through an adjustment period. I found the Stability Tour to be an easier and quicker adjustment than the standard model. This adjustment is by no means a deal breaker, but I do believe it’s important to establish this expectation. It won’t take you more than a good session on the practice green.

Final Thoughts – Breakthrough Golf Technology Stability Tour Fire Putter Shaft

If you’re a player that feels like you could benefit from more stability in your putting stroke, Breakthrough Golf Technology shafts are worth testing. But keep in mind that putting gets really subjective really fast. Regardless of setup, aim, and stroke path, the putter has to feel right in your hands and look good to your eye. BGT shafts can also be installed in any putter you use. Their steel extensions can accommodate single bends, double bends, etc. For these very reasons, I’d strongly encourage anyone to get fitted first for any BGT Stability shaft before diving in because they are certainly unique and an intriguing option in this new multi-material low-torque putter shaft market.

Installed a BGT Stability Tour Shaft in my Odyssey O-Works Black #7 a couple of years ago. Finished the putter off with a SuperStroke Traxion Tour 3.0 grip with a 75 g CounterCore weight installed.

    How good is it?

One day as we were taking off to head to the first tee the strap holding my bag was not secured and my golf bag fell off the back of the cart on to the cement. The putter shaft broke from the impact.

I was devastated as I had been putting so well with the new shaft. Immediately after the round I ordered two new BGT Stability Tour shafts. Went on EBay and found another O-Works Black #7 putter and used the components to build two identical putters so I would have a back-up.

Now I use one to practice with at home and the other is my gamer.

That is how good it is. I would never want to be without it again! According to Arccos putting is where I gain more strokes than any other skill and my average putts per round has declined by 2 strokes since installing the shaft.

It is so good that pretty much everybody else is copying what they have done.
