Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood
If you’re a good stick looking for a lower launching, lower spinning fairway wood, the Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood might be right up your alley. Featuring Callaway’s Jail Break Technology for added forgiveness, along with Face Cup technology, the Rogue Sub Zero is an absolute bomber on the course with it’s low spin numbers and penetrating ball flight.
The Looks
When you first set eyes on the Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood, you’ll immediately think “sexy.” The Rogue SZ boasts a more compact head shape than it’s standard Rogue counterpart. The blue and black color scheme from the Rogue line has a stealthy appeal to it, and the carbon pattern on the crown is downright nasty. Callaway does a great job of blending a classic looking head shape with a little bit of “sex appeal” in the Rogue Sub Zero fairway.
Additionally, there’s no hosel adjustability in the Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood (same as the non-Sub Zero version). The Epic fairway wood has adjustability, and the Rogue has Jailbreak. Take your pick. We will see if this changes in next year’s fairway wood models.
How Does it Feel?
As mentioned earlier, the Callaway Rogue Sub Zero fairway wood is an absolute beast. With that, the feel of the club lets you know it. When you hit one off of the screws, the ball screams off of the face. While mishits don’t feel as harsh due to the Jailbreak, you still get enough feedback in the hands to know that you missed it, and also where on the face you hit it. It’s nothing overly harsh, just a little reminder. Since the Rogue Sub Zero is geared towards better players, Callaway does a good job of giving you the feel and feedback a better player would expect out of a fairway wood.
How Does it Sound?
If nothing else, Callaway killed it this season with the sound in the Rogue series. Like the rest of the lineup, the Rogue Sub Zero fairway wood has a really pure sound to it. On the surface, the Rogue Sub Zero fairway has a crack sound to it, but a good shot almost starts to sound “airy” like the club is letting the shot breathe. I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but you’ll know what I mean when you hear it. At the same time, the Rogue SZ still has a sound of assertion to let you know you put a good strike on the ball.
On-Course Performance
Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |

I’m not going to tell you the Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood is for everyone, because it’s not. However, if you are a better ball striker, and have a need for a lower launching, lower spinning fairway, the Rogue Sub Zero is a must-try. Since the CG (center of gravity) is low and forward, the Rogue Sub Zero shoots lower launching missiles off of the face. That, combined with lower spin, equates to a lot of distance. For better players, that low CG also allows for more workability and shot shaping capabilities if you’re into that kind of thing.
The weight on the Rogue Sub Zero is forward (versus back on the standard Rogue), which brings the CG to the front of the club. The weight in the front brings down the launch and spin numbers at the expense of forgiveness. I’m a fairly high spin hitter, but with the right shaft, you can dial in the Rogue Sub Zero to exactly where your game needs it to be assuming you have the ball striking for it. Once you do get it dialed in, this club is extremely long both off the tee and deck.
Final Thoughts
There’s really not a whole lot of negatives to say about Callaway’s Rogue lineup of woods, and the Callaway Rogue Sub Zero Fairway Wood is no exception. If you’re a better ball striker who needs to lower your launch and spin with your woods, go get fit for a Rogue Sub Zero fairway wood. With the right shaft combo, this club can become an absolute beast. However, if you need that little bit of extra forgiveness, you won’t go wrong with the standard Callaway Rogue fairway wood either.
