Cleveland RTX 4 Wedge
The new Cleveland RTX 4 wedge is designed based on Tour player feedback, and is labeled as Cleveland’s most “Tour Authentic” wedge they’ve ever created. The newest iteration of the RTX line is designed for increased spin, feel, and control. With eighteen different loft and grind combinations, there’s an options to fit any player’s swing.
The Looks
Based on the loft that you choose, the head shape of the Cleveland RTX 4 is going to vary due to the “progressive Tour shaping” design. The lower lofted wedges will resemble more of a traditional iron with a straight leading edge. As you move up in loft, that leading edge becomes more rounded, giving you the look of a more traditional wedge. The RTX 4 continues to utilize the Rotex Face Technology, and the milling is very apparent on the face of the club. Not only does it give the club a cool, milled look, but it helps generate more spin in your wedge game. More on that later.
Cleveland offers three finish options in the RTX 4 wedge: Tour Satin (steel), Black Satin, and Tour Raw (“bronze” finish). In this review, we are looking at a Tour Raw finish, and I have to say, it’s absolutely stunning (and even more so in person). The bronze look is sweet to say the least, and since it’s a raw wedge, I imagine it’s going to look even better with some rust on it. With all of the options Cleveland offers in both finish and loft/grind, there’s certain to be something to fit your eye.
How Does it Feel?
With the Cleveland RTX 4 wedge, I found there to be two separate, but distinct feels to the club. The first is on shorter chips and pitches. The RTX 4 has a nice, crisp “click” feel on well struck short shots, which is exactly what I look for in a wedge. Even when missing off of the toe a bit, you still get that nice firm feel, but enough feedback to know you missed it by a hair.
I found the feel on full shots to be a bit different than on shorter swings. With good contact on full swings, the RTX 4 feels very soft to where you almost don’t even feel like you’ve made contact with the ball. Based on the feel with chips and pitches, this definitely wasn’t what I was expecting, but contact felt pure nonetheless. Misses off of the center of the club face will provide a more distinct feel in the hands, and again, will let you know that you missed the center of the club for precise feedback.
How Does it Sound?
Similar to feel, the Cleveland RTX 4 wedge also had two distinct sounds to my ears, but they seem to match the feel. On those short shots, you get the nice, crisp “click” mentioned above with clean contact. The club slides through the turf easily, and that “click” sound matches the feel you get in your hands.
Full swings have more of a muted “thwack” sound at impact. Again, with such a soft feel, the sound the club emits matches that feel. For a full swing from a hundred yards or so, the sound compliments the swing nicely.
On-Course Performance
The Cleveland RTX 4 wedge offers Rotex Face Technology and sharper Tour grooves to maximize spin in your game. While us mere mortals probably won’t be able to notice a sizable different compared to last year’s RTX 3, there is definitely a good amount of spin from this wedge. Similar to the RTX 3, the RTX 4 performs exceptionally from the fairway. I was able to easily control my ball flight, and the spin characteristics were both repeatable and predictable. Even with shots closer to the toe, I was still getting ample spin, due to the Rotex Face Technology. With the right grind, there also aren’t any issues for better wedge players who like to manipulate the face of the club. The leading edge still appears fairly flush with the club face open, which for someone like myself, is a big deal (even if it’s a mental thing).
The most noticeable difference for me was in shots out of the second cut and lighter rough. Where I’d normally experience a huge decrease in spin, I found that the RTX 4 still had some solid spin and stopping power. This is particularly helpful on short sided shots around the green, where there isn’t a ton of green to work with. I was still able to get the ball to check up reasonably well in these situations where you normally might have a wedge run out on you.
Final Thoughts
The Cleveland RTX 4 wedge is a great wedge option for better wedge players. In your short game, you want predictable and repeatable results, which is what you’re going to get with the RTX 4. A more compact, Tour shaped design, a Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 stock shaft, and technology designed to increase spin and control may have you thinking this wedge is for lower handicap players, but mid handicaps will see benefits from the RTX 4 as well. Overall, it’s a great all around wedge, and is definitely worth a look when it comes time to swap out the short game tools.

Can’t wait to get some of these in my bag!
I can’t wait to try these bad boys out.
Would love that feeling and looks in my bag
Would love to own one of these wedges cause my old Cleveland wedges are getting worn out. Favorite finish would be the tour raw. Would gladly do a review if selected.
Why do I want to win? I have really improved my short game and learned how to use spin loft and bounce to my advantage. Now I desire a set of wedges that can perform. Cleveland is the most reputable name in wedges and I would love to game them! I think I would like the black satin finish because why not look as good as possible? I think the tour role finish is beautiful but I am not familiar with how they develop rust and I’m not sure how that works out. The entire line of finishes are really attractive. I would gladly write a short or full review. I definitely look forward to trying them on full shots, lob shots, downhill lies, uphill lies, sidehill lies, from the sand, from the rough, when you chip, and when you pitch. I would be more than happy to provide feedback because to me one of the greatest joys of golfing is talking about it and sharing.
I love Cleveland and my Old Cleveland wedge is just about worn out after about 700 rounds of golf would love to test a new won out..
Hey excellent review of these bad boys. Would be a huge upgrade to my current wedges. My favorite golf season (Fall) is here and I’d love to provide a thorough review!! Raw finish for me. Cheers
The reason why I want this wedge is because I need predictable and repeatable results in my golf game. Would love this wedge in the Tour Raw finish. I would be honored to review this wedge.
I’d love to win since currently I have a 60 rtx 3Black finish and an older 56 MD2. I love my rtx 3 already since it is my go to for most inside 80 yard shots. I need a most consistent 56 for the 110 and under shots. Tour Satin is preferable but I think any finish is fun. I could definitely come up with a review considering I have my other wedges to compare with especially since the MD2 is forged ( curious about the feel) thanks again
I would definitely be honored to review these wedges! I have been playing a set of copper Cleveland wedges (52, 56 & 60 degrees) for 15+ years and love them so much, I haven’t been able to bring myself to replace them. I am now well overdue. My main problem is that every time I hit my buddies’ latest and greatest Callaway and Titleist wedges, they just don’t have the feel of my trusty copper friends. As my dad says, if you can still get up and down with what you have in the bag, why do you want to switch?
So please send me the Tour RAW finish 56 degree mid grind and I will not only give it a good workout, but I will also send back a report on how it compares to my tried and true Cleveland wedges. I promise to give it a great new home in my bag!
I’d put this wedge through a great test as I demand my wedges to be versatile and accurate from all lies.
Would love to test out the black wedges. I have the rtx-3 now and would love to compare those against the rtx-4.
I would love to review the RTX 4. I really like the look of the Tour Raw finish. I’ve played the RTX 2.0 for a while and recently purchased a CBX wedge. I’ve enjoyed playing both wedges and would enjoy trying the latest model.
Tour satin 60% and cause I need that loft to fill in the gaps and don’t have the money to buy one and yes I would love to
If you’re not about the Raw Finish, you’re just wrong. These wedges look beautiful and sound like they’d feel like butter, but I’d love to test them out for myself and review my thoughts from a very average golfer’s point of view!
I lobe the tour raw finish .. I heard and seen very good things about Cleveland golf wedges and how the the best wedge in the game… I would also love to do a review
I’m always looking for any advantage for my short game, so I’d love to win one/some of these in the Tour Satin finish! I’d definitely review them as well!
I’d like to win because all my wedges (except one) are ages old, so the grooves are worn.
I hear the new RTX4 has really good grooves, which would give more bite.
I’ve been using a 50*, 56*, and 60* setup, but all those wedges are old.
I have a really nice 58* wedge that seldom gets used. So I’d pick the 54* loft if I won.
I’d opt for the Tour Satin finish.
I’d review it, but I seriously doubt my review could come close to the comprehensiveness of your review above.
Plus, my golf season will be winding down soon, since I live in northern Illinois.
Love the look, need a 62 asap
My short game struggles and I need a club that will help me around the green! I believe this may be it!
The black finish is always my favorite! Great review of these awesome clubs. Looking forward to trying them out sometime soon. It’s be tough to beat the CBX’s but if anyone can do it, it’s Cleveland!
My first wedges were 588’s but not gamed a Cleveland for a long time. Would be great to review the newest model. Tour raw finish for me! ??
Awesome review! I have never owned a cleveland wedge. They are a compmay I have always wanted to try. I would love to win to own my first cleveland wedge. I would definitely be ok with reviewing the club if i got it. The black finish is my favorite.
Wow… look great! My current wedges are Adams so this would be an upgrade. Would love the black satin finish and i’d Be more than happy to do a review!
Nice review and I like the tour satin option! The past 10 years I’ve only played with vokey wedges, but based on the review it seems like it is a real solid players wedge. I like to manipulate the club face to play certain shots and it seems I would be able to do that with confidence with the rtx 4. Would love to compare it to my SM6 and SM7 wedges currently in my bag.

I like the Tour Satin finish.
Would like to win because my current wedges are old (over ten years), so grooves probably not sharp anymore.
I could review it, though I don’t play as often as I used to.

Never games any Cleveland’s. Always hit them during demo days & like their feel. Would like to review 46 or 48. But any is fine!

Great review, great site.
Started playing golf a year ago. Never knew I’d like it, turns out I love it.
My short game could be worked on a bit and this bad boy is callin’. ⛳️
@brensoyj
Would love to game the 56*/10* mid bounce for those short sided shots to gain that advantage over the other guys. I tend to leave myself in that situation more often than not and really need a wedge that I can be aggressive with.
