The Cobra King F7+ driver has a great sound and feel with solid distance to go with it. With some basic adjustability, Cobra made the King F7+ easy to fine tune to optimize performance in the right player’s hands. The biggest difference between the F7+ and the F7 are matte finishes, lower lofts, and slightly different profiles at address. Though not necessarily a definite rule, the King F7+ will typically fit best with the better players.

First Impressions

At address, the Cobra King F7+ driver fits my eye nicely. The King F7+ has a little more of a “player’s” profile but still has a well-rounded footprint with a medium face depth. If the blue finish pictured here isn’t quite your speed, the F7+ driver is also available in matte black. This matte finish is noteworthy. If you recall the original King LTD driver, it had the same checkerboard with a glossy finish. That finish was soooooo fragile and scratched real easily. On the contrary, the matte finish on the F7+ is more durable and holds up much better. Don’t get me wrong, use a headcover and don’t hit sky balls, but at least your headcover won’t scratch the finish. Both finishes have a subtle carbon checkerboard crown as previously seen on the King LTD.

How Does it Feel?

The Cobra King F7+ driver’s greatest highlight might be its feel. The F7+’s face is extremely responsive and solid. A significant difference between the F7+ and the F7’s feel is that the F7+ is much more solid and has a little more pop to the center of the face. Along those lines, while the sweet spot on the forged 8-11 Titanium E9 Face is generous, a mishit shot feels every bit of it. The King F7+ certainly puts a premium on its “impact feel” and it’s pretty impressive.

Take note, adjusting the weights on the King F7+ driver will alter the balance therefore changing the feel of the head. This is important to keep in mind when adjusting the club for your swing.

How Does it Sound?

Like the feel of the Cobra King F7+ driver, the sound is very impressive. Catching a ball flush gives you a solid cracking “whack” and just sounds flat out ripped. That sounds like a ridiculous over-zealous statement, but it’s accurate. I would go so far as to say the F7+ might be the best sounding driver Cobra has made. The only competition in the F7+’s family is the King LTD, but it might even have that beat.

At the time of release, the Cobra King F7+ driver was major contender for me. As you can see in the data, my numbers looked good with the weight forward, and ok with the weight back. The problem I ran into is that I’m historically terrible at hitting drivers with forward CG so I run into dispersion/consistency problems. I was able to hit the F7+ really well at times, but fought directional battles more than a little. With the weight back it was serviceable, but I just hit other drivers better including the King LTD.

As amazing as the King F7+ driver felt and sounded, I just couldn’t hit consistently accurate optimized numbers with it. Other players will find the King F7+ to be a monster and the adjustability definitely works as designed. My numbers show that the weight moving back definitely raised the launch and spin and I’ve seen other players experience the same effect.

Final Thoughts

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, if you aren’t considering Cobra as a top contender, you’re missing out. The Cobra King F7+ driver more than holds its own with the other premiere drivers in its class. With some of the best sound and feel out there, and adjustability to tune to your swing, the Cobra King F7+ is an excellent option for a wide range of players. As always, make sure you get professionally fitted and properly test so you realize the full potential of this driver.
