Dormie Workshop Yardage Book Cover Review
When I hear the name Dormie Workshop, I think of premium leathers, exceptional craftsmanship, and just flat out cool as hell. While Dormie Workshop is mostly known for their brilliant headcovers with some of the most original designs in the game, they also make a wide range of accessories that live up to the high bar they have set with their headcovers. The Dormie Workshop yardage book cover is no exception. For such a simple product, the quality and craftsmanship is still just as impressive as ever from these guys.
The Looks
Let’s start by pointing out that Dormie Workshop is known for essentially being able to take any design imaginable and turning it into a tangible product. This goes for their yardage book covers as well as their headcovers.
If you want a custom design, Dormie Workshop will work with you to make it a functioning reality. That said, their “stock” offering pictured in this review is a classic “leather hide” tan with a subtle Dormie Workshop script at the edge that will just peak out of your pocket. On the inside is a leather loop to hold your pencil and two black camo-patterned pockets to hold your yardage book or scorecard in place.
Design Quality
Craftsmanship and durability of Dormie Workshop products are major factors that separate them from so many of the other players in the industry. The leather on the yardage book cover is soft to the touch but tough enough to withstand regular use. According to Dormie, the cover’s distressed leather will develop a rich patina as you use it over time. I haven’t had it long enough yet, but I imagine it will be reminiscent of nice leather wallet after it gets broken in.
So much of Dormie Workshop’s exceptional quality comes down to the materials they use. The leather Dormie uses is as good as it gets. There’s nothing better than when you open a Dormie Workshop box and it just smells like a brand new baseball glove. When a product calls for a different material, such as this yardage book cover, Dormie maintains the same standards. By using premium materials, Dormie Workshop not only delivers a great looking product, but they deliver a product the customer will love for a long time.
On-Course Performance
My performance criteria for the Dormie Workshop yardage book? Hold my yardage book and/or scorecard and pencil and don’t distract me. Seems easy, but you’d be shocked. First, the Dormie Workshop yardage book cover has a leather pencil loop on one end. “Out of the box,” the pencil loop is pretty snug but will break in over time and pencil management will be easier. The tighter fit, however, will keep the pencil firmly in place. No sliding out and stabbing you in the butt or falling out somewhere on the course.
Fitting your yardage book and/or scorecard in the Dormie Workshop cover all depends on their sizes. Two things to consider here. 1) Scorecards are so different from course to course whether it’s size, orientation, or fold pattern. Realistically, any cover you use can’t address them all. Just slide the card between the cover and tuck it in your pocket. 2) Same goes for yardage books. In the case of this Dormie Workshop cover, the pockets are slightly narrow and fit “Tour” yardage books perfectly. Some of the random books produced by courses may be a little wide resulting in just having to put the book between the cover like your scorecard. Again, no way to address every yardage book made as sizes easily vary from course to course. None of this is a deal breaker for me.
The comfort in your pocket while you play is crucial as well. By using a soft, yet durable leather with some flex to it, Dormie Workshop made the yardage book cover “a non-factor” in your pocket. Some brands make these so rigid and bulky that you feel like you’re swinging with a small board in your pocket. The pliability of the Dormie Workshop cover allows it flex and bend a bit with your movements. You barely know it’s there.
Final Thoughts – Dormie Workshop Yardage Book
Look, I love golf accessories like any golf nerd should. You may even ask, “do you really need a yardage book or scorecard cover?” Obviously, yes, I do. Walk 18 holes in the heat with your scorecard in your back pocket and tell me how dry and wrecked it gets. Didn’t think of that, did you? Seriously, they’ll get wet, ink will run, and they will disintegrate. The Dormie Workshop yardage book cover comfortably keeps my scorecard, book, and pencil organized while preventing it from falling apart over 18 holes. Most importantly, the premium materials and strong construction of this Dormie Workshop yardage book cover will make it last for years to come.
