Our Most Popular Posts of 2020

I’m sure I’m the very first person to say this, but 2020 was a WILD year and 2021 is shaping up to be…special…too. It’s old news by now, but golf had a pretty big year in 2020 as one of the few legitimately COVID-friendly and safe activities. So what were you golf readers looking at on the internet whether a full-blown gear geek like us or just trying to get back into the game with some new gear? Here are our most popular posts of 2020.

Tensei AV Blue 9 - Popular Posts of 2020

Mistubishi Chemical Tensei AV Blue Shaft

This was a real popular shaft this season and number 1 on our most popular posts of 2020. The Tensei Blue has been pretty common as a stock option for awhile now in a LOT of different clubs, but the aftermarket Tensei AV Blue also garnered a lot of interest as a smooth shaft that appealed to a wide range of golfers. Tommy even had it in his 3 wood for most of the past season and a half.

Smoke Black - Popular Posts of 2020

Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black

This was the leader in the clubhouse for most of the year. Project X turned a lot of heads with the original HZRDUS Black shaft, but the Smoke Black built on that success and then some! As one of the better stock options with many of the OEMs, players were finding a quick option for easy low launch and low spin with a ton of control. As a result, this review got a lot of attention in 2020 as well.

UST Helium - Popular Posts of 2020

UST Mamiya Helium Shaft

The UST Mamiya Helium shaft found a real sweet spot in the market with players that had more moderate swing speeds and tempos. It was also an extremely popular option as a stock shaft for multiple OEMs. Coming in on the lighter weight end of the spectrum, the Helium was counted on to help lower swing speed players get the club around faster and to get the ball launching a little more.

True Temper AMT Tour White 7

True Temper AMT Tour White

A lot of good ball strikers these days are looking to find a low launching and low spinning steel shaft to contain their iron games! As such, the True Temper AMT Tour White was a popular stop on our site in 2020. AMT actually stands for “Ascending Mass Technology” – the shaft weight increases 3 grams between each club. This profile found its way into quite a few bags this season including our close friend and graphic design guru, Andrew Jesernig.

HZRDUS Smoke Yellow Featured

Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow Shaft

Much like the HZRDUS Smoke Black shaft above, the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow was another extremely popular OEM stock option this season. The difference here is that Smoke Yellow has a counter balance design with a slightly smoother profile, but still keeps spin and launch low. This shaft actually saw a little playing time in my bag over the past year in both driver and 3 wood.

Honorable mentions

While fancy and expensive golf shafts are always a popular topic, the only non-shaft post that made our top 10 this year was the Kirkland Signature Putter from Costco. Man, people REALLY wanted to know about this piece of gear.

Kirkland KS1 Putter 9 Featured

In my opinion, this putter wasn’t all that special or the killer value it was said to be, but it was fine. I can’t argue with the intrigue it created, however. I have to imagine that if the Kirkland wedges came out earlier in the year, they’d be right up there at the top of the list with the putter!

VA Nemesys 9

Another honorable mention in the more boutique arena is the VA Nemesys. Long known for creating some of the best premium aftermarket shafts in the game, Victor Afable released another banger. If you’re into counterbalance shafts, the Nemesys is the most counterbalanced that I know of in the market. The feel is great and the performance was exceptional for me all season long. Oh yeah, by the way, this has been my gamer eve since the review, minus a small window where I got the driver yips and tried anything out of desperation to recover my game. That experiment only lasted two weeks as it was clearly my brain, not the shaft, and it was back in the bag.
