Golf Pride Tour Velvet Align Grip Review

Golf Pride Tour Velvet ALIGN

With the Tour Velvet ALIGN grip, Golf Pride takes its long-proven Tour Velvet design and adds a raised ridge along the fingers that provides the golfer extra feel and increased ability to consistently square the club face.

First Impressions

The Golf Pride Tour Velvet ALIGN has the traditional look you expect with a few modern accents.  You have the usual Tour Velvet black, but with a distinct red stripe down the back.  I’m a big fan of classic and simple, and have not really taken to many of the multi-material, multi-textured grips that have become popular in the last few years, so this grip looks great to me.

Feel

The feel of the Golf Pride Tour Velvet ALIGN has the instantly familiar Tour Velvet feel, with their classic surface pattern.  A great word to describe the ALIGNs is responsive.  The Tour Velvet ALIGN is firm and stable, and you shouldn’t have any unintentional club throws here.

I remember back to some of the first clubs I played with – some Callaway Big Bertha woods with some extremely prominent reminder ribs on the stock grips.  It made it easy to put my hands on the golf club properly and helped me groove my swing.  The Tour Velvet ALIGN is a bit more subtle with its reminder, and I certainly prefer that these days.  Gripping the club consistently each time can lead to more shot consistency as well.

On-Course Performance

In the Tour Velvet ALIGN grip, Golf Pride touts improved club face awareness, and they came through big time.  My swing is fairly rhythmic, but I struggle finding and squaring the club face through impact.  What I’ve found with the ALIGNs is that they provide just a bit more awareness in where my hands are – especially in my takeaway and the transition into the downswing.

Final Thoughts

The Tour Velvet ALIGN grips are a nice addition to the Golf Pride roster and offer the golfer a familiar, confidence-boosting piece of equipment.  The raised ridge is a unique feature that can help you in one of the most important parts of the golf swing – getting to a consistent, correct hand placement.  This grip is a great feeling, responsive golf grip with the Golf Pride performance we’ve all grown accustomed to.
