Indi Golf Allison Mallet Putter Review

Indi Golf Allison Mallet Putter

When you hear about Indi Golf, many will think of their distinctive series of Stingray wedges.  Indi has expanded their short game offerings and have released several new putters, the blade-like Ramona and the mallet Allison models.  Considering I’m married to an actual Allison, my ears perked up corgi-style and had to get my hands on one.  In true Indi fashion, they’ve created an original, forgiving, fun golf product in the Allison Mallet putter.

The Looks

With all of Indi Golf’s clubs, they go for a unique, new kind of visual.  The Allison Mallet features a CNC milled wide sole body framed by tungsten weights.  With many mallets, you need some kind of aiming lines so you’re finding the center.  The Allison Mallet creates this with depth, rather than a mark.  It has a channel milled into it that’s the exact width of a golf ball, so alignment is perfect.  It’s also a good scooper, so if you’re lazy or social distancing, you can flick your TopFlite up easily.

I’m a big supporter of the multiple choices for finishes and neck type too.  Pictured here is the soft, subtle Satin Chrome in a double bend, but you can also get Matte Black and Teal with a slant neck too.  Both look great, and while you can customize further if you like, Indi tops it off with a reliable Lamkin Deep Etched grip.

How Does it Feel?

If you’ve read other reviews I’ve done, you know I intentionally, deliberately miss the sweet spot or mishit clubs.  For testing and science reasons of course…  Like their wedges, Indi Golf offers up a truly distinct level of forgiveness in their Allison Mallet putter.  They’ll even call it “Colossal Forgiveness,” and I’m on board.

Hitting any putter in the center of the face is going to give you good results.  This one is no different.  It’s feels soft, pleasant, and familiar when you do.  What the Indi team tries to do here is to eliminate the mishit.  In my testing, I spent a good bit of time hitting putts off the extreme toe and heel.  Essentially, you can hit em off of any part of this thing.  Maybe even back hand it.  I got good rolls and consistent distance on contact across all parts of the face.  The lighter aluminum body with tungsten perimeter weighting accomplished what they set out to do.

I will mention that while the Allison mallet feels pretty good, it may not give you the most precise feedback.  Though it won’t always TELL you where you hit it, you likely won’t get punished for a miss.  I will take that trade off all day.

How Does it Sound?

The Indi Golf Allison Mallet sounds like a subtle click/thunk.  Again, soft and pleasant, maybe a bit plastic-y depending on your ball.  Due to the “Colossal Forgiveness” design, this sound is consistent across a large portion of the face.  No need to make it sound unconventional.  They save that for performance.

On-Course Performance

My favorite putters have typically been mallets similar to the Indi Allison mallet putter.  I have a 2-Ball, and my gamer is a Corza Ghost (what up, 2010 Justin Rose?!).  My stroke is kind of a mini arc, and not always conducive to straight back-straight through, face balanced designs like this.  Anyway, that’s what I go with.

The Allison mallet does seem a bit light.  That’s ok if you ask me, because I feel it encourages you to go with an aggressive stroke.  Deceleration in putting can create nightmares, so if you give it a little gas, you’re more likely to get your intended result.  With the Allison being so forgiving and – even more importantly -consistent with speed and distance, you can swing freely.

You can take an assertive and confident swing with the Allison mallet.  It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to lag it from far out, or sliding home a short par putt, this is the tool to do it with.

Final Thoughts – Indi Golf Allison Mallet Putter

The team at Indi Golf are first and foremost committed to the enjoyment of the game.  What I feel they’ve been really successful at is creating reliable, visually appealing, and high performing golf products.  With the addition of Indi’s new putters, especially the Allison mallet, to their lineup, you have one more club in your bag that will likely make your golf game more fun.

  1. I have an Indigolf Allison putter. Got it for my wife but she does not play as much as myself and she insisted that I play with it. That said I will tell you this putter after getting the feel of a new putter and that takes time when you’ve played with a particular putter for years Drills 10 footers like their on a rail. Love the Allison putter. You will too.

  2. Is the putter named after the woman who made an Ace with a putter in Oregon??

  3. Hey all,
Thanks for your great thoughts about Allison putters, this article is special for me because I have 3 Allison mallet putters and all are designed very beautifully. I purchase my first Allison mallet putter one year ago and my uncle like that one, then we decide to purchase two more for us. These are very comfortable and easy to use.
