DRH - Take It Easy

Just Need to Take It Easy For a Bit Over Here at DRH

Driving Range Heroes

I’m never sure what people think when they come across our little spot in the golf aisle on the internet, but DRH is really a labor of love for us. We don’t do it to make money (I mean, sure, our Venmos are always open), and we don’t do it to be the biggest baddest authorities on golf. It’s a place for us to have a fun outlet to be huge golf nerds, talk about some cool gear, learn new things, and tell a good story or two. Really, it’s a place to just have some fun with buddies, and maybe make some new friends while we’re at it. I like to think of it as “barroom golf conversations on the internet”. But even still, it’s A LOT of work. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of fun work, but it does take significant time, effort, and thought. (Insert jokes here.) Well, sometimes, something tells you to take it easy and you just have to listen.

So that’s what I’m doing and I’ll tell you a little about it…

”You need to take it easy…now.”

I still haven’t figured out how much detail I want to go into here, but for now, I feel like it’s worth mentioning so people understand why things may be slowing up a bit for the time being. Around mid-June, I experienced a real health issue that was both scary and significant. (No, not Covid.) It ended up hospitalizing me for about four days and, and in short, has made committing to golf slightly difficult. One thing made clear to me is that I need to take a step back with everything in life and settle things down for a bit.

I’m fortunate in that I’m ok, will continue to be ok, and will be able to continue to live a healthy and happy life. I don’t take that for granted at all. That said, this has definitely been a wake up call and something that I need to take serious. (I even got a “you need to relax, MISTER” from Kris McEwen, so you know it’s real.) As much fun as I have with this site and golf, I also really like being alive and being around with/for my family.

So What’s Coming?

As of now, there will be a slight slow down in posts from the usual “every day” schedule. We’ll still be posting, just not as regularly while things get back to normal. Once I get my feet back under me, we’ll get back to a regular cadence with a goal of publishing fun, useful, and engaging posts.

The weekly YouTube show, “That Range Life…”, I do with Kris McEwen will continue as normal. While I need to take a step back for a bit, I don’t need to disappear completely! And it will be something fun for me to do without having to swing a club. Plus, Kris is the best and will make the show nice and easy to do like he always does so I can take it easy. I mean, I have to be able to ramble to someone at some point!

Speaking of rambling. I also plan on still doing Big Time Golf Guys with Adam during my “break”, but we just may not be able to as frequently. That one is still a little TBD, but don’t be surprised if some episodes pop up during this downtime.

Final Thoughts

I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank everyone who has been in the loop for their support. Everyone from my family and close friends, plus the many partners we/I work with in the golf community for this site. Everybody has been so great and understanding, and I look forward to everything we’re still working on. Love all you guys.

One thing I’d like to use this post for before wrapping up is just a friendly reminder to make sure you take care of yourself. Regularly visit your doctor and don’t think you’re invincible or can “just worry about it later”. Again, let me be clear, PLEASE take care of yourselves. Those around you want you around.

Sorry for the “not like me” deep post. Your regularly scheduled golf content will be back very soon. Like I said, we’ll still be active, we’re not going anywhere. Just maybe not always at the pace you’re used to from us, but we’ll be back on it soon. All of it.

Much respect for the candid post, Bill. I’ve been a fan since your work at PIG, have picked your brain on WRX, and have come to love DRH as a site clearly born out of love for golf. All that being said, I’d happily never see your work again if it meant you were living a happy, healthy life with your loved ones. Take care of yourself and your family first. Wishing you all the best in your recovery and beyond.

  3. Get better! Great site.
