KBS PGW Shaft
KBS is no stranger to performance-driven golf shafts, and with the release of the KBS PGW (Players Graphite Wood) shaft, they’ve expanded their graphite offerings even further. Building on the success of their PGI and PGH shafts, the KBS PGW is designed for players seeking a balanced combination of higher launch, stability, and feel in their woods. While many graphite shafts in this category lean toward either lightweight speed or heavy tour stiffness, the PGW aims to bridge that gap with a profile that suits a wide range of swing types.
I recently worked with a player whose swing speed and tempo made the 50g regular flex a strong match. After several range sessions and rounds, we had a good feel for what this shaft offers and who it’s best suited for.
The Looks
The KBS PGW shaft has a distinctive, bold aesthetic that tastefully stands out in the bag. A black weave pattern covers the top half, transitioning into a clean white lower half. The PGW branding features prominently in red and white, with angular, modern typography that gives off a performance-driven vibe. Though known for their signature red label, the KBS logo being a clean white and black is a nice change of pace. The PGW is a noticeable difference from previous KBS graphite offerings, but still fits comfortably into the brand’s vibe.
How Does it Feel?
The 50g regular KBS PGW feels incredibly smooth during the swing, especially for a lighter-weight shaft. There’s a noticeable load and release without any excessive whip or instability. For our tester, who has a more moderate tempo, the shaft had just the right amount of life without feeling loose. At the same time, it felt solid without feeling too robust. The transition is fluid, and the shaft does a nice job of staying tight through impact.
On-Course Performance
| Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 93.2 | 139.8 | 15.4Âş | 2863 | 223.3 | 244.5 |
With a driver swing speed in the 85 to 90 mph range, our tester was looking for easier launch and more carry without losing control. The KBS PGW delivered exactly that. Launch conditions improved with the ball getting up in the air more easily. Spin remained in a playable range, helping shots stay in the air longer without ballooning. My tester also managed to not lose too much rollout which is important for him at his distances.
Once adjusted to the new shaft, the tester was also pleased with his consistency. He maintained a fairly tight dispersion and was able to really find a consistent groove with his swing. A sort of no brainer compared to the old stock shaft that he’s been playing.
Final Thoughts – KBS PGW Shaft
The KBS PGW shaft offers a solid combination of launch, feel, and control. In our testing, the 50g regular flex performed well for a player with moderate swing speed and tempo, helping improve launch and carry while maintaining consistency and dispersion. While every player’s needs are different, the PGW is a strong example of how modern graphite shafts can blend playability with stability, especially for those who don’t swing at tour-level speeds.
