Maker Golf F1 Putter Review

Maker Golf F1 Putter

Maker Golf is a new player in the boutique putter space. Started in 2021, Maker Golf draws inspiration from the music industry and traditional car design to bring an elegantly simple, milled mallet in the F1. If you can believe it, this all started thanks to a terrible combination of losing your job and girlfriend all in a week’s time for Maker’s founder Chris Tecca. Rising from the ashes is a beautiful 303 stainless steel mallet topped off with a matte black shaft and Superstroke grip that make the Maker Golf F1 a super sleek putter all at a super reasonable price.

The Looks

My favorite part about the Maker Golf F1 is how it looks at the address. The all black silhouette is so nice and pleasing to the eye. A white logo on the face and alignment line on the flange keeps the F1’s aesthetics simple and clean. The head seems to flow effortlessly into the black shaft and exudes confidence for those testy putts. No need to worry about catching glare with this putter thanks to is brushed black finish. The lines of the F1 are sharp, literally and physically. Drawing inspiration from vintage car designs, the fangs on this putter glide outwards where your traditional blade putter would end. The fangs themselves remind me of the wings on a vintage Cadillac.

The F1’s sole features a milled out square to conserve weight and allow for the most mass to be located behind the face. This promotes a more forgiving strike. No stamping or logos on the sole keep true to the simple, minimal design Maker is going for.

How Does it Feel?

Coming in at $250 and milled 303 stainless steel, the Maker Golf F1 feels just as good as any premium mallet, but at a fraction of the cost. The F1 features full face milling that gives it a soft and buttery feel. I will say the milling is not as deep as other putters out there, but it still felt just as soft.

I really enjoy the weight of this putter, coming in at 363 grams, the F1 feels premium and feels very stable. The all black shaft is lightweight and contrasts the heavy head nicely, throw on a Superstroke Pistol Grip and I found the F1 to be super responsive and to just generally feel fantastic. This putter has me seriously considering putting it in the bag this season based on the feel.

How Does it Sound?

As mentioned before, Maker Golf draws inspiration from the music industry. Maker’s founder, Chris Tecca, works for a major record label in Los Angeles which bleeds into their putters. You may be asking “how does that have anything to do with a putter?” Not only does the Maker Golf logo resemble a sound wave but the acoustics of the F1 are very unique as well. Closely resembling the audio of the Ping Anser, The F1 has a pronounced higher pitch “tock” sound on mishits. Center strikes, however, give a nice deep tone. Love it or hate it, the audio of the F1 adds to the responsiveness and feel. You will certainly know when you roll it well.

On-Course Performance

If you have read some of my previous reviews, you may know over the past year I tried out arm lock putting. After countless rounds and still struggling with rolling the rock, I was ready to give traditional grip another chance. After three rounds with the Maker Golf F1 I can say I have put the armlock in the rear view mirror. The F1 is balanced and forgiving. Thanks to a long flow neck, the F1 has minimal toe hang and a full shaft of offset. As a result, this putter is great for those with a slight arc. Its heavier head had my hands gliding effortlessly through each stroke. Overall, through my rounds I felt my distance control improved leading to shorter second putts and, therefore, less pesky three putts.

Final Thoughts – Maker Golf F1 Putter

If you’re looking for a unique boutique putter that delivers great feel and forgiveness, the Maker Golf F1 Mallet could be your answer. Coming in for significantly less than other premium options in the market, the F1 is a sleek and sexy all black putter that will have your friends asking to try it out. I know mine did. Best part is, you’ll be supporting a small company with a great message. According to Tecca, Maker Golf is all about making something of yourself. Whether that be a putter company in his case, or a five-foot putt for us, or maybe having the confidence to go for whatever has been on your mind. Maker Golf reminds us to do whatever makes you happy.
