Newton Fast Motion Shaft Review

Newton Fast Motion Shaft

The Newton Fast Motion shaft is the newest evolution in Newton Golf’s growing lineup, aimed at providing golfers increased distance and maintain control through advanced shaft engineering. Building off the success of the original Newton Motion shaft, the Fast Motion version is approximately 10 grams lighter and integrates the same four proprietary technologies found in the original: Elongated Bend Profile, Kinetic Storage Construction, Symmetry 360, and Variable Bend Profile. These technologies work together to promote a smoother load, maximize energy transfer, and provide consistent performance. With its lightweight construction using premium Toray carbon fiber and a Symmetry 360 manufacturing process, the Newton Fast Motion shaft seeks to be a solution for players seeking effortless speed without sacrificing stability or feel.

The Looks

Aesthetically, the Newton Fast Motion shaft stands out with its orange/red-to-gold finish that shifts color under sunlight. This distinctive design not only adds flair to your club, but will certainly draw some attention from other golfers. Branding is kept to a minimum with basic white wording and a white outlined Newton logo. A reminder that flexes aren’t measured in “levels of stiffness” (regular, stiff, etc), but rather a number of dots. Newton provides a chart on their website for recommendations of which number of dots to go with based on swing speed. The more dots, the stiffer the flex.

Feel 14

How Does it Feel?

Constructed with high-modulus Toray carbon fibers, the Newton Fast Motion shaft is approximately 10 grams lighter than its predecessor. This reduction in weight could contribute to increased swing speed as it feels noticeably lighter in your hands. Where I generally tend to notice weight impacting my swing is in my timing. While Newton’s technologies allow the Fast Motion to maintain a stable and controlled feel throughout the swing, I often get out of sequence if the shaft is too light for me. When this happens, my control isn’t so consistent. So while I do feel that Fast Motion has many of the same feel characteristics as the original Motion (as designed), I definitely noticed the lighter weight in my hands. I believe players with less aggressive tempos will be able to manage the “lighter feel” better than the harder swingers.

Just to be clear, this is “a me thing”, not the shaft. I do believe the Fast Motion will help players with more moderate tempos and swing speeds gain some extra speed without feeling like they have to swing out of their shoes to do so.

The Elongated Bend Profile feels just like the original Motion. There’s a gradual bend at release rather than a sharp distinct kick point. Additionally, the amount of torque and “where” the shaft bends will vary depending on flex to best fit the target player.

In the interest of full fairness, I went into this testing expecting to pick up some speed, and I had to consciously remind myself not to change “how” I was swinging the club. Early on, I definitely fell into the trap of trying to swing too hard. As I mentioned in the Feel section, finding a smooth, controlled tempo is critical with the Newton Fast Motion shaft. While I did gain a bit of speed, and saw a slight uptick in launch as a result, my consistency suffered at times, leading to wider dispersion. Compared to the original Newton Motion shaft, the Fast Motion did give me a little extra distance, but I found better accuracy and tighter control with the heavier version. This experience really highlights the importance of getting properly fit and/or understanding how your swing interacts with different types of equipment.

Final Thoughts – Newton Fast Motion Shaft

The Newton Fast Motion shaft delivered exactly what it set out to be – a lighter and faster shaft rooted in the same core technologies as the original Motion. Compared to the original, I picked up some speed, saw a slight increase in launch, and added a bit of distance. While the Fast Motion shares a lot of the same feel characteristics as its predecessor, the difference in weight created a distinctly different experience for me. Like with any equipment change, the real key is understanding how it fits your swing. This was a good reminder that even small changes in weight can have a noticeable impact on how any golf equipment performs and feels to the individual.
