Nike Air Jordan Trainer ST G Golf Shoe Review

Nike Air Jordan Trainer ST G Golf Shoe

While the Air Jordan brand has started to become a little more familiar to the golf world, it’s still only just starting to really establish itself in the game.  Years ago, Keegan Bradley was the only guy on Tour wearing a (still) unreleased model, but now players like Pat Perez, Harold Varner III, and Luke Donald are official Jordan Brand golf ambassadors.  True, most of the Jordan Brand success in golf has been from the release of signature Jordan models like the 1, 3, and 13 (the 9 was hideous), but one of the best models they’ve produced is the Jordan Trainer ST golf shoe.  After originally releasing two colorways about two years ago, Nike recently released the Trainer ST in both all white and all grey.  Heads up though, these shoes have sold out in most places and most aftermarket prices could carry a nice little markup.

The Looks

Given Nike has released the Jordan Trainer ST golf shoe before, I had a decent idea of what to expect.  I knew the shoes would be predominantly Jordan’s signature elephant print but we got more toned down colorways such as all white and all grey.  Though a more tame statement than previously released Jordan Brand golf shoes, the elephant print is going to have a polarizing appeal.  As a big Jumpman fan myself, I love the subtle Jordan nod, and I was happy to get a more “plain” version of this shoe for more diverse options in my looks.

Comfort Level

Admittedly, shoe comfort is highly subjective and everyone has their own personal preferences.  What I can say about the Jordan Trainer ST golf shoes is that they are some of the most comfortable golf shoes I own.  By a mile.  Ever since getting my first pair of Trainer STs in 2016, the Trainer ST has been a mainstay in my shoe rotation for that very reason.  In fact, my biggest regret is that I sold one of the two pairs I had back then.

True, the shoe is on the softer side, but Nike went to great lengths to still give you good support and stability.  First, they used a half-length booty to secure your foot.  Around the heel is “external TPU” for stability and support.  There is also a synthetic leather overlay that supports the midfoot and it does that job well.  All in all, the Trainer ST is very comfortable over a long period of time and are an easy walking shoe.  Don’t be surprised to see this model frequently worn by Luke Donald this season.

On-Course Performance

Again, everyone has their own preferences for what makes a golf shoe a good performer, but I’m a big stability and traction guy.  Given the “softness” of the Jordan Trainer ST, it wouldn’t be outlandish to think these wouldn’t be the most supportive or stable golf shoe.  Thankfully Nike‘s implementations mentioned in the comfort section go a long way to really address that.  With the leather overlay across the midfoot you get great support that prevents twisting in the shoe for a better foundation during your swing.  The six removable CHAMP Zarma Tour spikes provide great traction in addition to the wide range of built in rubber “nubs” on the sole of the shoe.  I’ve played the Trainer ST in both wet and dry conditions and always found them to perform very well to the point I would consider them my current go-to golf shoe.

Final Thoughts

Like I say with every Jordan golf shoe, I understand that the Jordan Trainer ST golf shoe isn’t for everyone.  The Trainer ST is going to appeal to a very niche audience, but since Nike has more steadily delivered new Jordan golf shoes into the market, the demand has kept up with it.  Does that make us Jordan Brand golf shoe fans hypebeasts?  Yeah, maybe, but they’re still good golf shoes that hold their own regardless of whether or not there’s a Jumpman on the tongue.
