Normally our Thursday post is the latest riveting episode of the hit YouTube show, That Range Life – A Show Sometimes About Golf featuring our good friend, Kris McEwen. Welp, unfortunately we were forced to take this week off. In a normal week, Kris and I record on Sunday night, but he had a conflict this week. No big deal, we just planned to record Monday night. Then all of a sudden, a raging thunderstorm correctly referred to as a “derecho” came through the northern half of Illinois and hit my house around 3:30 PM in the afternoon. From that point forward, I have not had electricity in my house and it’s three days later.
Some results of the “derecho” can be seen below.
So no That Range Life show this week, sorry folks. One of the other “catastrophes” is that there was clear damage to cell phone towers. LTE signal wasn’t working for about 36 hours (yes, I know how technology works and why that happened) so I flipped to 3G and did my best to keep up with the world.
By keeping up with the world, I mean browsing Instagram, obsessing over the outage coverage on my electrical company’s app, and watching YouTube videos. So in the absence of our show this week, let me share some of my favorite videos from this week spent in darkness.
I won’t pitch you this guy’s whole channel, but it’s heavily based on typical guys from the Midwest. As both a Midwestern male and a huge golf guy, I found his video from this week super relatable.
Speaking of Midwestern internet content, Charlie Berens is another favorite of mine. He often teams up with the channel of the video above as well. There are some things here that may not land if you aren’t familiar with some Midwestern stereotypes, but I enjoyed this one a lot too.
Ope, and this Charlie Berens video was especially relevant this week. The tornado sirens indeed went off and the family headed to the basement for cover in our house. Many of these lines were used and I even enjoyed a Keep ‘Er Movin’ lager once it was safe, albeit powerless, to do so.
Last but not least, I recently stumbled upon MLW Wiffle Ball. I don’t know a ton about it (yet) other than it’s a bunch of friends/kids getting together and playing an extremely organized season of competitive wiffle ball and broadcasting it. It apparently has existed for years dating pack to when they were like 9 or 10 years old. I’m addicted to these videos. Here’s an example. PS. The top pitchers in these videos are incredible.
Oh, and I have a full-blown dead raccoon in my garbage can that’s been there since Tuesday afternoon and garbage day isn’t until Monday. Damn you, derecho! See you next week, folks!
