Project X HZRDUS T1100 HandCrafted Shaft Review

Project X HZRDUS T1100 HandCrafted Shaft

I have great news, Project X golf shaft fans. HandCrafted shafts are back! If that news wasn’t exciting enough, the return is marked by the release of an updated Project X HZRDUS T1100 shaft. This low launch, low spin profile has long been a favorite of players seeking high levels of stability and feel. By introducing a new 4D Optimized Carbon technology in this shaft, Project X claims it to be their most stable shaft to date. These premium shafts are available in small-batch numbers as each one is hand rolled and finished out of Project X’s R&D lab in San Diego, California.

The Looks

Right out of the gate, I would have liked to see a return to the iridescent finish of the original Project X HZRDUS T1100 shaft. While the signature iridescence may be absent, the new HandCrafted T1100 still pays homage to its predecessor with a neon green border around the silver HZRDUS logo. The lower third of the shaft has a similar silver finish as the original. You’ll also notice a “4D Optimized Carbon” logo in the tip section. And let’s not forget to mention the return of the classic HandCrafted logo. All logos and paint are applied by hand in Project X’s San Diego lab.

Of course, the major aesthetic draw is the visible spread tow weave that runs most of the shaft’s length. Call me crazy, but I’m a sucker for a visible carbon finish on a golf shaft. It just looks more sophisticated and stands out from the typical basic colors seen in golf shafts, especially when it catches the sunlight.

How Does it Feel?

For those familiar with the original Project X HZRDUS T1100 shaft, I hope this first impression resonates. The updated HandCrafted HZRDUS T1100 shares many similarities, but it just feels… better. Like, quite a bit better. That’s the best way to describe it if you know the original. If you don’t, the original HZRDUS T1100 was incredibly stable with a tight, consistent energy load and release. It was easily the best feeling shaft of the early iterations of the HZRDUS family.

The new HZRDUS T1100 retains all those qualities while feeling smoother and easier to play. I’m not sure if it’s solely due to the 4D Optimized Carbon technology, but the feedback is more precise and the shaft feels more alive without being loose. It’s quite satisfying for what Project X claims is their most stable shaft yet. Despite being a low launch/spin shaft, the new HZRDUS T1100 lacks that typical stout, “telephone pole” feeling. It’s much more playable and pleasant in your hands.

On-Course Performance

Club Speed Ball Speed Launch Angle Spin Carry (Yds) Total (Yds)
113.1 169.7 11.1º 2158 291.4 305.8

Project X labels its HZRDUS T1100 shaft lineage as “spin killers,” which I believe is a desirable trait in moderation. There was a time when all fast swingers seemed obsessed with sub-2000 spin rates, but you really need to have enough launch and a higher swing speed for that to be beneficial. My average spin rate of 2158 is pretty low for me, so mission accomplished, Project X. The biggest takeaway for me, however, was the consistency of the lower spin rate. Anything above 2500 rpm was clearly a result of a poor swing, not the shaft. All in all, the HZRDUS T1100 easily contains spin at a lower rate with my aggressive transition and faster swing speed.

I wouldn’t classify this HandCrafted Project X HZRDUS T1100 as impossibly low launching for the more mortal golfer. It has a stock low, penetrating trajectory, but it was far from impossibly low. I still achieved plenty of carry distance. The low launch truly shines in its ability to easily flight the ball down when needed. I didn’t have to resort to the usual “bag of tricks” to hit a lower shot under the wind. Additionally, I didn’t find it crazy hard to launch the ball a little bit higher if necessary. I wouldn’t say I could effortlessly hit a towering shot, but it was nowhere near the struggle that often accompanies a low launch, low spin shaft.

  1. hello,

how do you compare this shaft to a ventus tr black 6X and a Smoke green RDX 60Tx?

I have fast tempo and agressive transition, and maybe this shaft is perfect. 114-118 club swing speed.

This shaft is almost imposible to find in a fitting center in spain…

    thanks
