Puma Proadapt Delta Golf Shoe
Following extensive work with Rickie Fowler, Puma Golf developed their newest “Tour” shoe – the Proadapt Delta. The Puma Proadapt Delta shoe introduces the innovative new ADAPT Foam to make the shoe more comfortable but also stable and responsive for Tour-level performance. Players looking for modern technological advancements and contemporary looks, but want to maintain a classic vibe are the perfect match for this shoe.
The Looks
At the time of release, the Puma Proadapt Delta is available in three different colorways. There’s the white/grey/orange option pictured here, but there’s also an all white version with a splash of color by way of orange spikes. Then there’s a slick all-black option, again with a hint of color via some orange spikes. There’s also a sick white/navy/gold limited edition version Puma did along with the Palm Tree Crew.
Puma used a really nice premium “Atlantis Leather” for the upper, and it seems pretty durable thus far. In terms of looks, the silhouette is reminiscent of a more traditional leather golf shoe with a lower profile. Don’t get me wrong, they’re a far cry from what Arnold Palmer was wearing down the fairways in 1960, but they’re still classic and clean. For traditionalists that never quite bought into the trendy sneaker styles, but want a modern look, the Delta is a great option.
Comfort Level
Puma put the new ADAPT Foam in the heel section of the shoe. ADAPT Foam is lightweight and extremely comfortable on your foot, but it also helps provide stability while giving you great ground response. The lightweight design of the Proadapt Delta makes for a comfortable and easy wear over a long period of time at the golf course.
The heel section also boasts four PWRADAPT Pods for the cleats. What does that even mean, you ask? Basically, this keeps your heel more comfortable and also gives you better traction. These pods allow each cleat in the heel to move independently to better fit the contours of the ground beneath your feet. The pods also prevent pressure points through the sole by avoiding a static cleat fixture from digging into your heel with each step. Don’t tell me you’ve never been there before.
A comfort/fit highlight for me was the ADAPT-WRAP tongue. Frankly, I wasn’t even aware of this feature prior to testing, but it was the first thing to catch my attention. The tongue comfortably wraps over the top of your foot and pulls tight in the right places. It honestly feels like the shoe perfectly molds to your foot for an almost custom fit. Also worth noting is the molded “Comfort Collar” which allows for more stability and comfort. The Comfort Collar provides a more molded fit around your heel and ankle, and the softer, padded collar helps avoid that dreaded ankle bite which often accompanies premium leather golf shoes.
On-Course Performance
While the Puma Proadapt Delta by no means feels rigid, there is a strong sense of stability throughout the swing. The PWRADAPT Pods allow for better traction with the Dual Density Tornado cleats as they are able to adjust to the contours of the turf. Also helping with that traction and stability is the Proadapt Outsole. Puma strategically placed grooves in this TPU sole that flex in natural areas of the foot as you move. As such, the connection to the ground feels much more natural with great feedback. This outsole also makes for a much more comfortable walk.
That ADAPT-WRAP tongue I mentioned earlier legitimately might be the best part of this shoe. After a good few wears, it just keeps jumping out to me. Not only does it make the shoe fit more precisely to your foot, but it plays a huge role in the stability the shoe. There’s practically zero movement inside the shoe. I’m able to maintain a firm base and full control throughout the golf swing with great balance.
Final Thoughts – Puma Proadapt Delta Golf Shoe
Puma’s Proadapt Delta is very comfortable, has a classic spirit with contemporary looks, and is extremely stable. Being able to find that stability in such a lightweight and low profile shoe almost seems impossible, but the Proadapt Delta does it. My biggest takeaway from this review? Stability. There’s such a solid foundation, and good traction, that you feel confident standing over the ball. Before you know it, it’s been 18 holes and you’re still just as comfortable as when you first put the shoes on your feet.
Bill – do these run on the large side?
I found them pretty true to size.
