Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi Shoe
The Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi shoe is the high top version of the well-received TitanTour Ignite. Built on the TitanTour Ignite foundation, the Ignite Hi is designed to provide the same great performance but with more stability and support. The Ignite Hi is available in four different colors: white, black, white/black, and white/orange. I understand many of you traditionalists may be skeptical of this adventurous design, but after my experience with these shoes, that would be a big mistake.
The Looks
Ok, there’s a fairly big elephant in the room. When you first see the Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi, it’s obvious they are high tops. Fair enough. It’s different in the golf world, but so be it. They aren’t the only golf high tops out there. What caught my eye was that big velcro strap and buckle at the top. I understand it from a functionality perspective but it seems so out of place on a golf shoe. The rest of the shoe itself has a traditional athletic golf shoe look and is quite on brand for Puma.
The next logical step in the process is to actually slip your foot into the shoe. Once I laced the TitanTour Ignite Hi up and pulled that velcro strap tight, it all came together for me. These shoes were magic.
Comfort Level
There are a handful of elements that make the Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi an extremely comfortable shoe. First, having support around your upper ankle while golfing is a strange adjustment to make. To make that more comfortable for the player, Puma used a soft perforated pig skin lining. Before everyone comes after me with some contradictory comfort experience, I get it, we all have different responses to comfort. I personally found this lining to be very comfortable. Additionally, the lining is breathable and keeps your foot the proper temperature depending on the weather. This is also aided by the PWRCool insole which absorbs or releases heat as necessary.
Another important component is the Ignite foam used in the midsole. This foam has a dual purpose of keeping your feet comfortable while also giving you a solid base and good ground response. Over the past two seasons my primary golf shoes are various TitanTour Ignite models and it’s largely based on the comfort and performance provide by the Ignite foam.
Last but not least is that odd looking velcro strap around the high ankle support. This strap gives you a comfortable fit while also providing amazing support. The fit feels more “custom” to your ankle and helps you get the shoe more precisely dialed into your preference.
On-Course Performance
Having regularly used the Puma TitanTour Ignite lows for a couple of years, I anticipated a strong performance from the Ignite Hi. The PWRFrame that encases the Ignite foam provides a strong yet flexible frame in the sole. Range of motion is very natural while keeping you firmly planted and balanced during the swing. Obviously the higher ankle and the strap add a new level of support. I’ve actually come to prefer the high top version of the TitanTour Ignite specifically for its extra support and stability. Not only does it seem to help me with my swing, but I like it better for the goofy lies in traps and on the sides of hills. The higher ankle also makes for a more supported and comfortable walk on often uneven terrain. I’m looking at you, Erin Hills and Whistling Straights…
Final Thoughts
Admittedly it’s diificult to pull the Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi look off like Rickie does, but if you can make it happen it’s worth it. The TitanTour Ignite Hi gave me some of the best support and stability I’ve ever had in a golf shoe. For rounds where I wear long pants, the Puma TitanTour Ignite Hi has become my go-to golf shoe in any condition.
