REKS Trivex Sunglasses
The latest model REKS sunglasses feature their new Trivex Lenses, designed to make colors pop and provide maximum “optical clarity” on the golf course. While REKS is known more for their “unbreakable” frames in their sunglasses, they are now stepping up their game in the lens department with the new Trivex.
The Looks
The great part about the REKS Trivex sunglasses is that they come in a variety of frames to fit any style needs. This Trivex lens can be fit into any frame shape REKS offers. Your only limitation is that you can only get the Trivex lens in a matte black frame. REKS’ frames options range from “classic” square looks to aviators and sport models, so there’s sure to be something that will fit your style. In regards to the Trivex golf lenses, it’s a lighter, amber tint. This is by design, and we will get to that part later.
Comfort Level
So far, all the REKS Sunglasses I have tried are extremely comfortable. The REKS Trivex sunglasses are no different, as they use the same unbreakable frame as other REKS models. They’re with an extremely lightweight polymer, and sit very comfortably on your face. The polymer is also a “memory-flex” material, you can shape and bend the frame to fit your face better. Also, you don’t have to worry about breaking the frames! The lightweight design and flexible frames lead to a perfect fit on your face ensuring optimal comfort, and making sure you don’t get those headaches when worn for prolonged periods of time. Again, these might be some of the most comfortable sunglasses you will ever put on.
On-Course Performance
Let’s break down the REKS Trivex Sunglasses into two performance categories: frame and lens. From a frame perspective, due to the “memory-flex” material, the glasses did a reasonably good job staying on my face during a round. Now, if your frames are a loose fit, there’s definitely more of a risk of them moving around during your swing, but less risk of headache. Tradeoffs and balance, am I right? Luckily, the fit is easy to adjust.
This brings me to the “unbreakable” part about the frames. I wouldn’t call them fully “unbreakable” but they’re pretty darn close. You can bend them a full 180° towards and they won’t snap in half. Sit on them in the cart? No problem. The only thing I wouldn’t do is bend the arms of the glasses away from you. There are screws that hold them to the frame, and they screw can tear through the polymer and the arms can break off. So don’t do that. All in all, they’re really a great pair of shades that you don’t really have to worry about breaking.
Now for the lenses. I’ve tried quite a few pairs of golf lenses, and while I won’t say these have the most color “pop” and grass detail I’ve ever seen, they’re great for the price point. Amber lenses aren’t my favorite either, but they are necessary in this case. They’re recommended for medium light conditions, and the anti-reflective coating does give them a little more of that “mirrored” look, and are also resistant to dust and smudges. The amber coloring does make the grass pop, and you can still read undulations in the greens with them on (although I take any sunglasses off when putting anyways). While the lenses aren’t unbreakable, they seem to be a quality, durable lens that performs as advertised from a color pop and clarity perspective.
Final Thoughts – REKS Trivex
The REKS Trivex sunglasses and lenses are a spectacular buy at the $75 price point they’re sold at. While you’re limited somewhat in color options for frames and lenses, they are extremely comfortable and durable. Add in the new Trivex golf lenses and they’re really a steal at the price point.
I think you’re missing out on a very large segment of potential customers and that is the (fly)fishing industry. Polarized sunglasses are an absolute must for fishermen and almost all wear them. With a little switch in marketing, This could be a major area of sales for your company.
Just a thought.
We aren’t REKS, we’re an independent golf review website. I’m sure these glasses would be great for many applications, but as a golf site, that’s how we tested them.
