Sergio Garcia Masters Champions Dinner

Critiquing Sergio Garcia’s Champions Dinner At The Masters

Sergio Garcia got to host the traditional Champions Dinner at the Masters this year, and the menu is below.  As an avid watcher of “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Guy’s Grocery Games,” (cos who doesn’t love Guy Fieri?) and “Iron Chef,” I feel that I’m more than qualified to judge this Champions Dinner menu.  Here are my thoughts:

Champions Dinner Menu

International Salad:

What is an international salad exactly?  It’s inspired by ingredients representing countries of Masters Champions.  Is it from only the ones Sergio likes?  Every champion? If so that includes South Africa, Fiji, England, Australia, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Wales, and Scotland.  That’s a lot of flavors in one place there, Serg.  Could be a hit or miss for me.  I would’ve preferred a nice soup to go with it as well for my Champions Dinner at The Masters.

Grade: C+

Arroz Caldoso de Bogavante (Traditional Spanish Lobster Rice):

I’m an Asian American.  I love rice.  I also love lobster.  I don’t know if I love the two together.  Throw me a nice lobster tail and some mashed potatoes.  But rice?  I get it, he’s Spanish so I’m sure it’s like a risotto.  Even at that, I’m not much of a risotto guy.  Although I will say, it is Masters week so I respect Sergio for helping his fellow Champions carbo load before the big event.

Grade: B-

Angela Garcia’s Tres Leches Cake:

I’m not sure how I feel about this one.  It’s sweet that he’s paying homage to his wife and her cooking, and I’m sure it’s great.  I’m just curious as to if she nudged him on this one.  Happy wife, happy life, am I right?

Not much of a tres leches guy myself though.  I would’ve like to see something like a nice creme brulee here or something.  And like 4 of them because I eat A LOT.

Grade: B-

Overall, Sergio put together a mediocre menu based on my qualified expertise.  I’m sure, however, the chefs at Augusta made it into a real treat.  All kidding aside, I’m sure Sergio had an awesome last dinner as the 2017 defending champion, and I’m sure it was a night he won’t forget.

Overall Grade: B-
