Sqairz Velo Golf Shoe
The Sqairz Velo golf shoe is touted to make you fast! No, the Velo wont help increase your 40-yard dash time, unfortunately. This shoe is designed to give you the ultimate combination of traction, stability, and power with your golf swing. The Velo is absolutely packed with tech to help improve your scores and give you the utmost comfort at the same time. Sound too good to be true? Yeah, I thought so too, but after several rounds I’m actually impressed.
The Looks
One of the first things you will notice with the Sqairz Velo golf shoe is its square toe. A staple of all Sqairz shoes; hence the “square” name. Reminiscent of the legendary NFL kicker, Tom Dempsey, famous for his square-toed shoe. the Velo undoubtedly has a unique look. This shoe comes in three color ways: white/blue, black/white, and white/black. A thick white midsole, and a white faux leather upper give the shoe a clean silhouette. Moving back on the shoe, the navy blue tongue stitching, side graphics, and heel stabilizer give a nice pop of color that quickly grew on me. Matching blue heel pulls round out the shoe nicely.
If you are used to a slim and sleek shoe, the Sqairz Velo may appear a bit oversized and chunky to you. The extra width and overall larger size was a bit of an eye sore when I first wore them, I have to admit. But I quickly realized the benefits and tech within the Velo far outweigh the aesthetics of many of my usual spikes.
Comfort Level
The Sqairz Velo Golf shoe is one of the more comfortable shoes I’ve tried. It’s not particularly close either. Remember that thick midsole I mentioned earlier? Sqairz new lightweight responsive NRG-Foam midsole provides incredible support while being soft for comfort. Pair that with the insole, a dual-density compression foam footbed that seemingly formed to my foot. The best feature? The extra wide toebox. My toes had so much room for activities! Free to spread out and get comfortable, my feet felt leaps and bounds better post round after walking 18. While the Velo is wide, it runs relatively true to size. Additionally, thanks to the Sta-Put lacing system which features printed silicone on the top of the lace, it is easy to lock down your foot and get the perfect fit. No need to worry about the laces slipping and thoe feeling loose.
While the Velo is waterproof, the breathability is impressive. No issues overheating or with moisture buildup. A breathable textured tongue and collar lining keep the air moving and your feet happy. Overall I am extremely happy with the comfort and this shoe has easily become a staple in my weekend rotation.
On-Course Performance
The Sqairz Velo Golf shoes checked all the boxes for me during a few recent rounds, but a few features and feelings stood out. First off, the square toe box provides an extremely wide and stable foundation. So much so that Sqairz encourages you to try to swing out of your shoes. While I try not to do that, I certainly felt the confidence to do so when a nice downwind, downhill tee shot was required. Sqairz claims the Velo provides an increase of twelve yards in distance, 3.9MPH in swing speed, and 30% dispersion tightening on average. While I cannot confirm nor deny, the stable base of the Velo certainly helped me mentally put everything I could into my swing.
The Velo’s sole features an AI-generated smart traction system. What does that even mean? Well, there are over 290 points of ground contact to create grip and power on any terrain. This includes six removable spike disks that add longevity to the shoe and traction. The night before I began testing the Velos it rained nearly two inches in Chicagoland. The next morning the course was soupy to say the least. I didn’t experience a single slip or ounce of water in my shoe. All I can really ask for in those conditions. Most notably, I felt more comfortable on awkward on uneven lies that I found myself. No concerns of slippage is a nice peace of mind while the ball is six inches below your feet. I was certainly thankful to have the Velos’ solid traction!
Final Thoughts – Sqairz Velo Golf Shoe
Despite the unique appearance, the Sqairz Velo offers a combination of comfort, stability, and traction that can benefit golfers of all skill levels. The wide toe box and impressive traction system provide a secure and confident feel throughout the round, while the breathable materials keep your feet cool and comfortable. While Sqairz’ claims of increased distance and swing speed are difficult to verify, the stable base of the Velo certainly allows you to swing aggressively.
