Sub 70 JB V2 Wedge Review

Sub 70 JB V2 Wedge

The Sub 70 JB v2 Forged wedge is the latest short game addition to the brand’s growing lineup, designed with feedback from tour professionals and skilled amateurs alike. Built from DT-4 carbon steel and available in multiple finish, bounce, and even groove options, the JB v2 is crafted to deliver precision, control, and versatility in your wedge game. With subtle refinements to the leading edge, sole, and shaping, it’s clear Sub 70 set out to make a wedge that performs well at a price point that’s tough to beat.

Looks 6

The Looks

Right out of the box, the Sub 70 JB v2 has a tour-inspired shape that’s compact and familiar. The teardrop head shape and squared leading edge present a sharp, clean look at address, especially in the lower lofts. The squared leading edge helps to provide a better “visual alignment” at address. While this may be more of a subjective preference, I really like how it looks behind the ball.

Sub 70 also changed up the back of the wedge by adding a third weight port where there used to be two. You will also notice a horizontal line milled through the rear of the club. This impacts weighting and center of gravity (CG), so it’s not just cosmetic. Otherwise, aside from a small “v2” on the back of the hosel, the new JB wedge doesn’t appear wildly different from the original.

Available in satin, black, and raw finishes, each offers something a little different depending on your visual preferences. The black finish in particular has a sleek, stealthy vibe, while the raw finish is designed to rust over time for that weathered, classic look. There’s also an option for a full-groove face if you prefer that look and feel in your wedges.

Feel 7

How Does it Feel?

Forged from DT-4 carbon steel, the Sub 70 JB v2 delivers an extremely soft forged feel. Feedback from impact is incredibly consistent across the face with a satisfying responsiveness that lets you know whether or not you’ve struck it cleanly. Whether you’re hitting a full approach or just trying to nip one off a tight lie, the forged construction gives you that sweet feel you want around the greens.

I really felt that the new sole really enhanced the overall JB v2 experience, but especially the feel. It feels cleaner and smoother through the turf. At least it does for me. The updated sole felt more consistent across the range of shots I typically hit with my wedges. While turf interaction naturally varied depending on different factors, both square and open-face setups felt noticeably more dependable and controlled.

How Does it Sound?

The Sub 70 JB v2 has the kind of muted, crisp impact sound you’d expect from a forged carbon steel wedge. It’s quiet without feeling dead, and even mishits avoid that harsh, clicky tone some wedges can produce. The acoustics are consistent across a range of shots and should appeal to players who prefer subtle, reliable feedback.

On-Course Performance

The Sub 70 JB v2 wedge is all about versatility. The updated sole grinds allow for a variety of shot types, from square-faced chips to open-face flops, and there’s enough bounce and relief to handle different turf conditions. Whether you’re in a dry, tight fairway or a playground-sand bunker, the JB v2 gives you options.

One of the standout features is the flight control. With more weight taken out of the sole region of the club, the CG is a little higher in the head. This makes the stock flight slightly more piercing which better players prefer for nice dart-like wedge play. The versatility of the wedge will still allow you to hit them higher without sacrificing consistency. Spin performance is solid across the board, and if you go with the full-face groove option, you’ll see added bite on open-face shots, especially from the rough.

Multiple loft and bounce combinations (from 46° up to 60°) give you the flexibility to fine-tune your short game setup.

Final Thoughts – Sub 70 JB V2 Wedge

Sub 70 continues to impress with gear that punches well above its price tag, and the JB v2 Forged wedge is no exception. Great feel, clean looks, versatile performance, and smart design tweaks that actually show up on the course. The updated sole stood out for me as a real improvement, making the club feel more dependable in different setups without limiting shot creativity. With multiple finish and groove options, a wide range of lofts, and that signature Sub 70 value, the JB v2 is an easy wedge to recommend for players who want premium performance without the price tag.
