Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14-Way Bag
The new Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14-Way bag review gives you all of the things you love about Sun Mountain’s lightweight 2.5+ carry bag, with the organization of a 14-way top typically only found in larger, heavier bags. A lightweight carry bag that isn’t a nightmare to pull my clubs out of? Count me in.
The Looks
Sun Mountain makes some of the sleekest looking bags on the market, and that continues with the 2.5+ 14-Way golf bag. Whether it’s a plain single-color bag, or one with flashier, bright colors like the Rush Green and Black one we reviewed, they’ll have something to fit anyone’s eye.
Branding-wise, Sun Mountain continues to subtly let you know “yeah, this is a Sun Mountain bag” without blasting logos and brand names all over the place. Big plus in my opinion. The 2.5+ offers a small footprint and minimalist design typical of a carry-friendly bag. However, while it is a fairly slim bag, the 14-way top does make it a little larger than some of the super lightweight options on the market. But hey, you can’t have your cake at eat it too.
Design & Features
In terms of the design of the Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14-Way, I think Sun Mountain got this bag almost perfect. I’m not going to go into the details of the quality and make of this bag. That’s a known strong suit for Sun Mountain. What I will say is that it was immediately clear that the 2.5+ 14-Way lives up to what you’d expect from a Sun Mountain bag.
Pockets:
There are enough pockets with a good amount of space to carry the essentials. The bag has five total pockets – one large full-length, one medium, one ball pocket on the spine, a drink/bottle pouch, and one velour-lined valuables pocket. I would’ve liked a small pocket above the ball pocket like on other Sun Mountain bags for tees, etc… but overall, the pocket layout provides a good amount of space for a carry bag.
X-Strap Fit System:
The straps fit comfortably and are easy to adjust, plus the back pad on the side of the bag makes it that much more comfortable. It’s easy to throw the bag on your back with a traditional single-strap carry, or throw it on like a backpack. The straps are well padded and are sturdy so it won’t destroy your back or shoulders when walking.
14-Way Divider:
Saving the best for last here is the key feature of this bag – the 14-Way top. Sun Mountain does a great job of keeping the top dividers compact enough to keep the bag footprint small, but large enough that you don’t have issues pulling clubs in and out (even oversized putter grips!). The dividers are full length, and I didn’t have a single issue pulling clubs while testing. It’s really amazing they could fit a solid 14-way divider in such a small bag.
Glove Holder:
This one is a small add-on, but might be my favorite feature. There’s a small piece of velcro near the bag handle to attach your glove to. This may not sound like much, however, as someone who typically attached their glove to the bag handle to dry, I loved this. Simply stick your glove to the velcro, and it frees up your handles, yet allows you to easily dry your glove.
On-Course Performance
When you hear the name Sun Mountain, you should immediately think of some of the best bags on the market. The 2.5+ 14-Way bag fits that bill. It might be the best carry bag I’ve ever used. The straps were super comfortable for all 18 holes. The pocket space is plenty, as anymore might encourage you to make the bag too heavy to carry. When thrown on a cart or push cart, I could easily get to all of the pockets, and the smaller profile makes it fit anywhere with easy. My only complaint is the lack of a leg lock feature. This was tricky when using a push cart.
When walking, there’s a lot of taking the bag off, putting it down, then putting it back on. The 2.5+ 14-Way is super easy to slide on or off to throw on the ground. Whether using one or both straps, they never get tangled, and it comes right off. The carbon fiber legs throw themselves out nice and wide, so the bag remains stable when standing, but at the right height to grab your clubs. The lightweight plastic handles at the top of the bag are super sturdy, but more importantly, aren’t obstructed by your clubs, so it’s easy to grab the bag and throw it over your shoulder. And as I’ve mentioned multiple times, the 14-way top makes pulling your clubs in and out a breeze.
Lastly, is the actual weight when carrying. Lugging your clubs for 18 holes isn’t always the best on your shoulders and back, especially if you carry a ton of stuff around. The 2.5+ 14-Way is still super lightweight coming in at under four pounds. The limited pockets, as I mentioned, let you fit everything you need, but don’t tempt you to over pack.
Final Thoughts – Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14-Way
Buying a new golf bag can be one of the hardest decisions to make in golf! How many dividers and pockets do I want? Do I walk or ride? Everything is so subjective when it comes to a bag. If you’re looking for a versatile carry bag, but love the ease of use of a 14-way top, look no further than the Sun Mountain 2.5+ 14-Way. It’s super comfortable and lightweight when walking, with enough pocket space and features that you could need. A feature-packed stand bag that’s durable, comfortable, light, AND has a 14-way top? What more could you need in a stand bag? Sun Mountain really nailed this one.

Wanted to say thanx for the review of the bag!!! I’ve been eyeing the 2021 version and this review really has some great pictures and you did a great job about explaining it all. For 2021 make a video.
Glen –
Glad you’re enjoying the bag!
In terms of 2021 we will see what we can do.
Thanks!
What is the total weight of the bag fully stocked with 14 clubs and accessories?
Matt –
Just under 4 pounds plus however much your clubs and accessories weigh 🙂
Thanks for the review. I was debating between the 14slot or 5… always wanted a 14 but have read a lot about the increase in club chatter. Which is why I was hoping you could share, how was the club chatter when walking? My fear is the clubs bumping into one another as I walk about.
I’ve always found that it mostly depends on where you wear the bag on your body. If you wear it too low, the bag is going to bounce more against your hips/butt during your stride which leads to more club noise.
That said, clubs are naturally going to move around and chatter regardless. It doesn’t matter if they’re 14 or 5 way, 4 way, etc. If I’m walking, I’d just rather have a fewer dividers as it typically means a smaller top and lighter weight.
