Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag
Sun Mountain’s waterproof H2NO bags have been a favorite go-to of mine for quite a few years. In short, Sun Mountain took their years of rainwear expertise and developed a waterproof bag that would hold up to the elements while keeping everything in your bag dry. 2022’s Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed stand bag is a comfortable carrier perfect for a walker in all conditions.
The Looks
Though Sun Mountain typically offers both basic and bold color options, the H2NO Lite Speed stand bags carry one of their more bold color palettes. That said, I find the color options to be tasteful and flashy without being too over the top. I really like the “spruce/black/Aztec” pictured here because it’s certainly unique, but isn’t screaming out for attention. Similarly, the moss/sage/inferno colorway is really unique and stands out without going over the top. The black/forest/atomic colorway has neon accents for a little flash, but its primarily dark colors keep it tame. If you want a more traditional colorway, the H2NO Lite Speed is also offered in a really slick black/white/red. That’s always a real tough color combo to beat!
The overall profile of the H2NO Lite Speed is slim and fast. There’s plenty of storage that we’ll discuss later, but it doesn’t look bulky or heavy in appearance. When I look at the H2NO Lite Speed, I see a bag that wants to be carried on your shoulder for 18 holes and not strapped in any sort of cart. (Not that it couldn’t, of course, if that’s your preference.)
Design & Features
I continue to appreciate about Sun Mountain golf bags for their simplicity and strong execution of a basic golf essential. However, their ability to cleanly sneak in small details that make a huge difference is what sets them apart. Little features on the H2NO Lite Speed like the tee slots on the spine and the “two-compartment” velour valuables pocket are nice touches of added convenience. The dual straps make for a comfortable carry and the “carry-assist grab loops” on the straps only make a long haul easier.
In the 2022 H2NO Lite Speed, there’s a new “bottle pocket” on the spine that has quite literally been a game changer for me. My go-to water bottle on and off the course is my giant custom DRH Tempercraft. The problem is, it’s massive and doesn’t fit well in anything except a side apparel pocket at best so I usually just end up carrying it and setting it down all day. It’s a huge pain, and of course, always a risk of being left behind. Fortunately, my beloved water bottle fits in this bottle pocket perfectly with easy access at all times. It’s even convenient on a cart since it doesn’t fit in a cup holder and annoyingly rolls around wherever it’s stowed. Not anymore!
Of course, we can’t have a discussion about a Sun Mountain H2NO bag without getting into its waterproof design. As always, the “taped” seams and water resistant zippers help keep the pockets sealed. Contents will stay dry safely inside the bag in even the heaviest rains…or the pressure washer test. Speaking of pockets, there’s enough storage to comfortably fit the needs of a walking golfer.
One last quick note on a subtle feature of the H2NO Lite Speed that definitely deserves to be mentioned is the plastic-molded handle at the top. This might be the best I’ve seen on a Sun Mountain bag to date. It’s a bit smaller, yet sturdy enough for its purpose. It’s also more streamlined and flows into the bag nicely for a cleaner look.
On-Course Performance
I’ve always loved Sun Mountain’s H2NO stand bags for their function and versatility. They’re great for walkers in any weather and won’t take on extra weight by absorbing water. Keep this benefit in mind for dewy mornings or post-rain rounds where you’ll be setting your bag down in plenty of water. The H2NO is not just for inclement weather. With the H2NO Lite Speed’s comfortable straps and sub-five pound weight, it’s the perfect all-purpose, any-condition walking bag.
For “day-to-day gamer” use as a walking/carry bag, having a good stand is simply table stakes for me. I expect it to deploy smoothly every time and retract back into place just as easily. It also needs to be sturdy and form a strong, stable foundation anywhere place you set the bag down. Sun Mountain always delivers here, and the new H2NO Lite Speed’s stand is solid and reliable as expected. In the event you’re riding in a cart or using a push cart, there are velcro leg locks to keep the stand firmly in place.
Final Thoughts – Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag
While there are lots and lots of great golf bags on the market, Sun Mountain has set the bar for literally decades. Simply put, they are dependable tools of the trade that traditionally do everything well and hold up over time. Though I haven’t had this new Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed stand bag long enough to speak to its durability, I can certainly say that I absolutely love it. Within just a couple of uses, it quickly jumped into the gamer spot. The H2NO Lite Speed stand bag is a great workhorse that makes carrying both comfortable and more convenient. If you’re considering a new Sun Mountain stand bag this season, I’d have a hard time not pointing you in this direction. The H2NO Lite Speed is truly a great stand bag.
