There was an unexpected moment in time where I thought the TaylorMade Qi4D driver was going to be my next new club. Though I ended up not bagging the Qi4D LS I tested, it was still an attention-grabbing experience for me. The Qi4D focuses on what TaylorMade calls the Four Dimensions of Driver Design: head design, aerodynamics, face technology, and fitting.

At the heart of the new design is a re-engineered Vertical Roll Radius. Most golfers know that hitting it high or low on the face can kill a drive, but TaylorMade has tightened this curvature to normalize spin across the entire face. Combined with the 5th Generation 60x Carbon Twist Face and an improved Trajectory Adjustment System (TAS), the goal is a driver that performs predictably even when your swing doesn’t.

Qi4d Driver Looks

The return to a more traditional and tour preferred profile is the standout visual change for the TaylorMade Qi4D line. While recent models may have seemed elongated to maximize stability, Qi4D features generally tighter silhouettes. The LS version I tested captures that classic pear shape look that fits the eye of a high swing speed player. Matte carbon crowns remain clean with a subtle weave, but the branding on the sole has shifted to a more understated palette. You will find a predominantly black head with silver, blue, and orange accents that are tasteful without being too flashy.

The sole features the Trajectory Adjustment System (TAS). In the LS model, you see two weight ports positioned toward the front and back. A forward heavy setup works in tandem with the re-engineered Vertical Roll Radius on the 5th Generation Carbon Twist Face. The purpose of this design is to normalize spin across the entire face, specifically helping with high or low misses.

Qi4D Feel: Heavy Stability & Muted Feedback

The TaylorMade Qi4D feels balanced throughout the swing and is easy to return to square even when swinging with an aggressive tempo. This sense of control stems from the multi-material construction which allows for weight distribution that helps keep the head on path through the transition. It felt sturdy and predictable regardless of how hard I swung the club.

At impact, the 5th Generation Carbon Twist Face provides a precise and dampened sensation. While the club does not feel lively or jumpy, the ball snaps off the face with a distinct sense of efficiency. The face design and internal reinforcement work together to filter out harsh vibrations, resulting in a solid and honest feel that tells you where you struck the ball. It’s a straightforward, high-performance feel that seems focused on consistency and control.

Muted Acoustics and a Dense Crack

Acoustics on the TaylorMade Qi4D are heavily influenced by the carbon fiber and internal dampening structures used throughout the head. Instead of a high-pitched metallic “ring,” strikes produce a dense, mid-toned crack with a muted, thuddy character. Volume isn’t loud enough to turn heads across the range and is definitely more controlled. Golfers who prefer a quieter sound that feels like a solid thud rather than a hollow explosion will find the Qi4D to hit this mark.

Performance with the TaylorMade Qi4D LS driver was objectively solid. Launch and spin were generally within a tight and optimal window. This confirms that the re-engineered roll radius and forward weighting deliver on their technical promises. With my swing and club speed, it created a penetrating flight that carried well without ballooning. Even on mishits, the 60x Carbon Twist Face and the redesigned Thru-Slot Speed Pocket preserve ball speed and keep spin from spiking on low-face strikes.

While the data remained consistent, the muted character of the face presented an interesting challenge for me. Because the feedback is so dampened, I found myself chasing “pop” by swinging harder to try and elicit a more explosive response. This often led to a slightly squirrely swing and widened my dispersion patterns.

A more disciplined golfer than me, of course, would trust the data and not react so much from feel in their hands. The club delivers the performance it promises, but those who rely on a crisp and lively impact to feel connected to their shot may find the transition to be an adjustment.

Final Thoughts – TaylorMade Qi4D Driver

The TaylorMade Qi4D LS is a technically sound driver that prioritizes stabilization and predictable spin. Technology like the re-engineered Vertical Roll Radius and 5th Generation Carbon Twist Face provides a high level of control by helping normalize ball flight on mishits. This creates a stable head that performs consistently for the high swing speed player.

Ultimately, while the Qi4D LS is a capable performer, it didn’t provide the specific feedback necessary to unseat my current gamer. The dampened character of the face didn’t work out for me and often resulted in a less disciplined swing and wider dispersion. However, for the golfer who prioritizes a quiet, consistent driver and trusts the data over sensory feedback, the Qi4D is a strong lineup of drivers.
