Clean Flight Golf Ball Washer
As much as we’re self-professed golf nerds on this website, believe it or not, even we have our limits. We often reference in our gift guides that there’s nothing worse than someone thinking “this person is a big golf guy, I’m going to get them something golf related” and you end up with some random golf doo-dad that you have to fight your hardest to not let the displeasure show on your face so as not to seem ungrateful for the thought. Trust me, I’ve seen them all. So I’ll admit it, that’s how I felt when I first laid eyes on the Clean Flight Golf Ball Washer. Hand up, I was totally wrong. This thing is great.
I’ve seen a million different “personal” golf ball washing devices that you can attach to your bag. They’ll all “save you strokes” or get your golf ball “clean as new”, but that’s rarely the case. More often that not, they’re difficult to use, clunky, and don’t really clean your golf ball all that well. So when I filled up the Clean Flight, strapped it to my bag, and skeptically put it in play for a gross muddy Fall round in Chicago, I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be a lifesaver.
Out of the Box
Getting up and running with the Clean Flight Golf Ball Washer is pretty straightforward. The box contains the ball washer, a one ounce bottle (30 ml) of cleaning solution, and a carabiner strap to attach the device to your bag. Just unscrew the top, pull out the ball holder, fill it up with some water, and squeeze up to a few drops of cleaning solution into the water. Put the holder back in, clip it to your bag, and you’re set.
Note: when you run out of cleaning solution, alternatives such as dish soap will do the trick. Just remember that you don’t need a ton.
Features
The main feature of the Clean Flight ball washer is the “patent pending variable brush system”. As you can see above, there are four columns of brushes that scrub the golf ball as you work the ball through them. Though already discussed and pretty straightforward, the attached carabiner strap allows for easy attachment to your golf bag or push cart. If you’re riding in a motorized cart, the Clean Flight’s size and shape fits well into a cup holder making it a convenient community commodity.
On-Course Performance
When comparing to other similar golf ball washers I’ve used, the Clean Flight sets itself apart due to its ease of use and how well it actually works. It really works similar to the stationary balls washers found on a golf course. Just pop open the top, stick the ball in the slot, and then scrub the ball until clean. That’s it. It’s quick and effective. The ball comes out nice and clean just needing a quick dry from your towel. No more worrying about keeping part of your towel wet all round, or better yet, the ole “spit shine”.
I first put the Clean Flight ball washer in use for a round after the course put their ball washers away for the year. It was wet and muddy out so the Clean Flight got more than its fair share of use that day. I walked 18 holes with it comfortably attached to my bag, used it multiple times per hole, and it worked great. Expectedly so, the water got pretty gross by the end of the round. Changing the water out every round is a smart move. This will also prevent the inside from getting moldy and smelling bad. I washed it in my sink like I would any cup or drinking vessel. Note: Clean Flight does NOT advertise this device as a drinking utensil, but I guess if you’re trying to be creative/sneaky, who am I to stop you?
Final Thoughts – Clean Flight Golf Ball Washer
The Clean Flight personal golf ball washer has been a very welcomed addition to my arsenal. It’s easy to use and isn’t a cumbersome gadget slowing down pace of play. There’s nothing worse than showing up to a course to find no ball washers, or worse, empty ball washers. With the Clean Flight in tow, it’s a non-issue and one more thing you can actually control on the golf course. A clean golf ball will obviously perform better and the Clean Flight Golf Ball Washer can give you that guarantee.
