The Golf Gear Junkie Quarantine Relapse

A few months back I wrote up a funny little bit on how much of a golf gear junkie I am.  The constant flow in my life of buying and selling clubs I don’t need, have no idea if they fit my game, but purely for the sake of “hey, I like new gear and want to try this out”.  I thought I was doing better, but the gear junkie relapse has occurred.

I had finally gotten to a point where I felt my bag was “set” (of course I did).  My Ping G400 Max/Ventus Blue combo is an absolute rocket launcher and isn’t going anywhere.  Taylormade p790 Irons had me feeling good about my game.  Wedges were coming around.  Putter seems to be working still.  All is good, right?  Wrong.

The Boredom of Quarantine

Fast forward to March of 2020, and quarantine hits.  I’m confined to my one bedroom apartment in Chicago, and what better do I have to do than look at golf stuff on the internet all day long?!  And then all of these companies start throwing out deals?  How could I resist?  Yeah, I couldn’t.  You’re probably thinking “Tommy, you can’t even hit new clubs, why are you replacing them?”  Well, if you see my previous post, half of this is about the excitement of opening that cardboard box to some new sticks.  And that can bring me joy in these awful times.  The other part is, well, golf gear doesn’t have to be clubs.  It can be bags, clothes, shoes, and the like.

So, what has brought out the junkie in me this quarantine?  Outside of a few miscellaneous irons and wedges that you’ll probably see pop up on the site in the coming weeks, I found a few good clothing buys as well (thanks eBay).  Few pairs of pants.  Some shorts.  Few new Puma Golf polos, cause you have to have fresh clothes for the season if/when it happens!  Maybe a new bag.  Some head covers are sitting in an online shopping cart (not purchased yet to be fair).  Some shot sensors for my clubs.  I do need a new rangefinder…  The possibilities are endless.  All I know is if this quarantine keeps going, it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.  The gear buying that is.

In all seriousness, we understand these are very trying times for some families out there, and many of us have had direct, negative impacts on our lives.  Please remember these types of posts are meant to be tongue-in-cheek and to get a laugh out of you.  And if you want to win some cool golf gear from all of our site’s gear junkies, and also help out those in need, check out our Basement Cleanout For A Good Cause to find out how.
