Tour Edge Exotics E722 Hybrid Review

Tour Edge Exotics E722 Hybrid

Do you want a premium hybrid that feels great and is super easy to hit a million yards? Look no further than the Tour Edge Exotics E722 hybrid. Diamond Face VFT, Ryzersole, and a high MOI make for an extremely forgiving and powerful distance monster that’s great off of the tee and deck alike. For some, the E722 hybrid may even be a great option for a total fairway wood replacement.

Looks 3

The Looks

Out of the two Tour Edge 722 hybrids, the E722 is the larger, more “mini fairway wood” option. Sure, the head is definitely on the larger side for hybrids, but it has a nice pear profile with a medium face depth that sets up nicely behind the ball. At address, the black face and topline are clean and the black carbon fiber crown is as cool as always. There is a touch of offset, but it’s minimal and will fit most eyes just fine.

Flip the club over and lots of the built-in technology is now visible. The Acoustic Resonance Channels (A.R.C.), which we’ll discuss later, are outlined with red accents. Highlighted in white across the center of the sole is the RyzerSole which pushes the center of gravity (CG) low in the head for higher launch and cleaner turf interaction. Last, but certainly not least, is the adjustable sole weight in the rear. This CG placement increases the MOI (again, we’ll discuss later) to make the club more forgiving and easier to get up in the air.

Though this thought is definitely subjective, I feel like it’s worth sharing in this section. When I placed the E722 hybrid behind the ball, I just got the feeling like I was going to hit the living daylights out of the ball just from looking at it. There’s just something about it that’s inviting and reassuring at address telling you that you’re about to blast off. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.

Feel 4

How Does it Feel?

Not only does the Tour Edge Exotics E722 feel powerful, but it feels fast. Weight distribution on this thing is about as good as it gets. The carbon fiber crown reduces weight on the top of the club so it can be relocated into more ideal areas for that low and deep CG I mentioned earlier. As such, the E722 has a perfect balance throughout the swing. Mix that balance with the RyzerSole and the E722 hybrid glides extremely smooth through the turf. The design definitely lends itself to a more sweeping shot, but will also allow for a crisp thin divot with a similarly clean feel. Overall, the E722 has an impressively smooth feel that is an excellent match for the powerful response from impact.

When I tell you that the ball really jumps off of the face, I’m not doing it justice. Tour Edge’s new Diamond Face VFT is comprised of 41 total diamond shapes behind the face of the club. These diamond patterns create a springlike “trampoline” effect which increases both ball speed and forgiveness. There’s no mistaking it when you find the center of the E722 hybrid’s face. The ball explodes and almost makes you feel like you must be a better golfer than you really are. It takes quite a bit of a miss to really notice any significant degradation in that explosive sensation. You’ll still know where you hit the ball on the face, it just maintains its pop. Of course, if you miss on the extreme edges, that’s on you, not the club.

How Does it Sound?

I mentioned something called the “Acoustic Resonance Channels” in the Looks section up above. This is how Tour Edge manages the sound in the 722 lineup of metalwoods. ARC works by controlling how the vibrations are directed throughout the club head at impact. When ARC is combined with the E722 hybrid’s 100% carbon crown, the resulting sound is firm and direct “whap” at impact. It’s by no means loud, but is satisfyingly assertive. It somewhat resembles a compact fairway wood and has a little openness to it that matches the jump mentioned in the Feel section.

On-Course Performance

For performance perspective I first want to point out that, FOR MY GAME/SWING, the Tour Edge Exotics E722 hybrid fits best as a controllable long distance finder. In other words, as a mini fairway wood, or possibly a 4/5 wood replacement. “Liftoff” is incredibly easy with a fantastic rising flight and tons and tons of carry. The low and deep CG from the RyzerSole and rear weight really help get the ball up and going without ballooning. As mentioned in the Feel section, the Diamond Face VFT is extremely hot and the resulting ball speeds are exceptional. It’s not often I effortlessly hit a 3 hybrid 240-250 yards.

At this point, I feel that I’ve made the speed and subsequent big distance of the E722 hybrid pretty clear. It was astoundingly long in my testing sessions, but what really enhances that distance is the ease of control. The high MOI makes the club more stable as well as resistant to twisting at impact. This means the club naturally wants to stay square through the swing and will twist less when the face meets the ball. I found that to be quite true and it was extremely easy to consistently deliver a square face through impact for nice and tight accuracy. Most importantly, I was able to maintain this control at full speed.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Exotics E722 Hybrid

Tour Edge’s entire 722 metalwoods family is by far one of the most impressive generations of woods they’ve ever produced, and the E722 hybrid may be the star of the show. I would argue it’s the hottest and fastest club of the entire 722 lineup. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all really good and full of heat, but the E722 hybrid absolutely jumps. The combination of refined technologies and good ole fashion solid design really come together perfectly in this club. So if you’re looking for an easy-to-control, long-distance club to bridge the gap between your irons and driver, the Tour Edge Exotics E722 hybrid is an incredible option that you should definitely have on your radar.

Bill, I am playing Bobby Jones Blackbird in 18 21 and 25 degrees. Obviously, these are old technology and I am looking to replace them but to date have not found any hybrid from any manufacturer the could come close to the distance and high launch of the Blackbirds. If you are familiar with these could you tell me if the e722s are a possible replacement? The only downside to the Blackbirds is the occasional big hook. Thanks for a very good review and look forward to your reply.

    • I have zero familiarity with those hybrids, sorry! If you’re looking for an easy launch, the E722 is it, and I’d say go with one of the higher launching shaft options if you want something to float a bit more.
