Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 Fairway Wood Review

Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 Fairway Wood

If there’s one thing Tour Edge certainly knows how to make, it’s a great fairway wood. The new Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 fairway wood is no exception. Designed for players on a budget looking for a “competitive spec” fairway wood that’s easy to play, the C522 is tough to beat.

The Looks

As the competitive spec option in the Tour Edge Hot Launch lineup, the C522 fairway wood carries an overall traditional look. The footprint is moderate with a classic slight pear shape and a medium-depth face. Honestly, the C522 isn’t far off from the similar shapes of the premium exotics fairway woods from the past few generations. Flip the club over and the color scheme continues the black/blue/white Hot Launch theme from the 521 line. While I thought the Hot Launch clubs looked good last year, the overall aesthetic in the C522 is much more refined with a more premium feel.

If you’re a more “discerning” player, the HL C522 fairway wood will fit your eye just fine. In my opinion, the C522 fairway wood is the best best looking club in the entire Hot Launch 522 lineup. The shape is perfect and the club looks really good behind the ball.

Feel 6

How Does it Feel?

Tour Edge introduced their Diamond Face 2.0 technology to the Hot Launch lineup. There are 42 diamond shapes of varying sizes behind the face that act as mini trampolines at impact. Working in tandem with the Diamond Face is the 360º Cup Face, which allows the whole face to flex more at impact, this creates more jump. Overall, the C522 fairway wood’s face is generous with a lot of pop and precise response.

How Does it Sound?

Much like the Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 driver, the C522 fairway wood has a tight “snap” to it that holds up with its premium Exotics counterpart. By using the new Acoustic Resonance Channels, which are visible on the sole, Tour Edge was able to fine tune the club’s pitch by controlling how sound vibrations bounce around inside the club head. The sound is powerful, precise, and comes in at a nice medium decibel level. Once again, far out-performing its price point in this category too.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C series is designed for the player looking for more of a “competitive” spec club, but with some extra forgiveness and optimal launch. By placing the CG low and deep in the head, the MOI is increased to provide more stability and it’s easier to get the ball launched in the air with some added spin. By adding a little extra spin, the ball will hold in the air for more carry. This will be especially helpful for players with more moderate swing speeds. That said, I found the the C522 fairway wood to be extremely workable. I was able to play the ball both directions and high or low as needed. My stock shot proved to be a powerful mid-launch rope, but I could easily play the high floater if required.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 Fairway Wood

Tour Edge has really narrowed the gap between their “bang for your buck” Hot Launch C522 line and their premium Exotics offerings. Though the C522 fairway wood may have a more simplified design, the performance is extremely impressive and just as good as top dollar competitors. In my opinion, Tour Edge’s Hot Launch line continues to be far and away one of the best values in golf clubs, and the the C522 fairway wood is a true testament to that belief.
