TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid Shoe Review

TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid Shoe

TRUE linkswear has put together quite a string of great releases since their “re-launch” in 2017. With multiple great products over the past six years, many of the elements from the greats have been combined into a single model – the TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid shoe. With a major focus on comfort and total performance fit for the golf course, the LUX Hybrid is truly an impressive shoe.

The Looks

There are five different colorways available for the TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid shoes. I’m a big fan of the the all white version pictured here, but I’ll be interested to see how well the white knit holds up on gross days on the course. Though these shoes feature a waterproof knit upper, it’s still a knit. For those types of wet and dirty days, the black, grey, and/or “admiral” blue might be a better option. The admiral colorway also features a slick contrasting brown leather saddle that has a perforated texture to it. The white, black, and grey colorways feature a camouflage pattern that’s subtle and tasteful.

As far as aesthetic, the LUX Hybrid has an athletic profile, but the leather saddle has a clear golf inspiration. The style is certainly versatile for a nice transition off the course. While there is sneaker influence, the overall vibe is casual, clean, and functional.

Comfort Level

If there’s one thing I can say about TRUE linkswear, they make some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn. The new LUX Hybrid falls right into line with my well-established comfort expectations. Apparently TRUE used a new compound in the midsole to provide even more comfort. While I don’t have a lab to prove any chemical differences, I will say that the LUX Hybrid’s footbed provides a great blend of stability with padded support. This is supported with an updated insert as well. Think along the lines of “walking on a bed of clouds” without sacrificing a firm response from the ground. In other words, they’re soft on your feet, but not so squishy that you get foot pain from a lack of support.

This is the point in which we must cover what is quite possibly the most important feature of the new LUX Hybrid shoe. TRUE made some key additions such as a new achilles heel pad, TPU heel stabilizer, and a “high retention elastic” heel lock system. All of these combine to lock your foot into the shoe much better, but they also make the shoe incredibly more comfortable. Say goodbye to any nasty heel bite, and hello to an ultra-comfortable walking experience! I can’t stress enough how happy I am to see this feature to TRUE’s lineup this year.

Fit tends to be a somewhat subjective measure, but I feel the LUX Hybrid fits true to size. I would say that there is a little room beyond a “medium” width so a wider foot will be fine. Super wide feet, well, I can’t really say but I imagine the knit upper should have some give. It just might be a somewhat snug fit for an extra-wide foot.

On-Course Performance

If you combine TRUE linkswear’s LUX Knit and LUX Sport shoes, then make them even more comfortable and stable, you have the new LUX Hybrid. The leather saddle combined with the arch of the shoe provides great support in the middle of the foot so you keep a solid foundation on any lie as well as great ground response. Keep in mind that the LUX Hybrid is a spikeless shoe so if you’re a player that really needs a massive amount of bite into the ground, you won’t mistake these for cleats that really chew into the turf. That said, as far as spikeless golf shoes go, TRUE linkswear’s traction pattern provides a really good grip and doesn’t give me any problems whatsoever. I’m able to comfortably make my full, aggressive swing and keep good balance throughout.

Don’t forget that the LUX Hybrid is a waterproof golf shoe! I can’t speak for torrential downpours, but I will say that your feet will still dry in damp to wet conditions. The TPU mudguard above the midsole will provide an additional layer of protection from water and mud as well. For all you long-term TRUE fans, the LUX Hybrid features a 6mm heel drop.

Final Thoughts – TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid Shoe

I’m told that there are a lot of new exciting drops coming from TRUE linkswear this year. If the LUX Hybrids are any indicator of what’s to come, I’m genuinely very excited. The heel/ankle/Achilles area is the most comfortable I’ve experienced in a TRUE linkswear shoe to date. With that key addition, and the unsurprising comfort, the LUX Hybrid has been a great addition to the rotation. If you want a spikeless shoe that does it all well, is super comfortable, and transitions perfectly off the course, the TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid is a great option.
