TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit Shoe Review

TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit Shoe

Out of the entire TRUE Linkswear lineup, the Knit might be the most seamless street-to-course shoe they make.  The lightweight and breathable materials are designed for maximum comfort over long wear periods while still functioning as a solid golf shoe.  If comfort and versatility are what you’re looking for, it may be worth reading the rest of this TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit review…

The Looks

For starters, the TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit is offered in five different colorways such as white, black, grey, navy blue, and a red-ish knit.  I’ve found the Knit to dress up or down for really any look.  Whether it’s jeans at the bar or golf pants for the course, the overall look is solid.  The fully-breathable TRUEknit upper has a somewhat casual look to it with its white midsole and gum bottoms.  Choose your sock color wisely, however, as they can be faintly visible through the shoe’s knit.  As you can see, there are some accent details in the knit on the toe boxes to give the TRUE Knit a little extra character.  In short, the TRUE Knit is a casual, yet appropriate, shoe that goes with a wide range of looks both on and off the course.

Comfort 14

Comfort Level

TRUE Linkswear somehow manages to find a way to make their shoes feel very snug and form fitting without feeling tight and restrictive.  The TRUE Knit feels very fitted to your foot with a strong “wrap” for stability, but somehow still manages to feel freeing on your foot.  Even with that snug feel, the TRUEknit upper is barely noticeable while you’re wearing it.  I noticed the same exact effect in the TRUE Linkswear Major as well.  This fit is beneficial for better stability and control to deliver strong “course performance” as well.  I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but you almost need to wear them for yourself for this to really make sense.

As already mentioned, the TRUEknit upper is extremely breathable and lightweight.  This makes for a very comfortable wear over longer periods of time both on and off the golf course.  While there is moisture resistance, I would suggest not wearing these on overly wet or muddy days.  Wet days because they are only water repellent (not “proof”) and muddy because over time, that mud will be tough to clean off.  For normal dry conditions, however, the TRUE Knit is comfortable as can be.  Also worth noting is that the midsole is on the firmer side but is still comfortable out of the box.  This sole helps provide a more stable base and better ground feedback.  Over time, the midsole softens some, but doesn’t become pillowy or “bouncy” which is a plus for me.  I don’t want to walk on 2x4s, but super squishy footbeds historically do more damage than good.

Performance 16

On-Course Performance

Players that prefer a more free range of motion shoe will be best suited for the TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit.  While I mentioned earlier that the TRUE Knit is form fitting, it does allow for some movement.  Frankly, I like that feel, but if you really need some heavy ankle or arch support, you may want to consider a different TRUE model.  The TRUE Knit’s gum soles have what TRUE Linkswear calls a “Cross-Life Tread” for “maximum versatility.”  On the course, the Cross-Life tread provides great grip and the stable base makes a comfortable swing from any lie a breeze.  Note, if you’re not a spikeless fan, these aren’t for you.

Off the course, the TRUE Knit is extremely comfortable and “walks around” well.  I’ve found a lot of shoes that are branded as “street to course” aren’t really all that great for both.  The worst is when the concrete or floors are wet and the nubs slide everywhere.  With the TRUE Knit, I paid attention to this specific test and had no issues.  Do they feel like my normal sneakers walking around town?  Not exactly, but they are perfectly comfortable and do fine in civilian life.  I can easily wear these on a regular basis on nicer days.

Conclusion 4

Final Thoughts

The TRUE Linkswear TRUE Knit is a life one-stop shop.  Since receiving my pair for testing, they’ve been the perfect “by-the-door” shoe (much to my wife’s chagrin – sorry!).  Whether I’m heading to the driving range or to pick up some beer milk, I throw them on and comfortably go on my way.  The versatility doesn’t just end at functionality.  The TRUE Knit’s style fits with a range of looks from “golf pro” to “street casual” making them a perfect go-to option for spikeless golf fans.  Just ask the guys at TRUE Linkswear – the TRUE Knit is a staple for everyone on staff.

Great review Bill! I wear True Linkswear shoes and I love them. They have a big toe box for wide feet and they’re very comfortable. I agree not to wear this style on wet days though.
