The #41 ranked PGA Champions Tour player heading into this week won the PURE Insurance Championship Sunday after making an amazing 35-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The 50-year-old rookie played a Tour Edge Exotics CBX 15 degree 3-wood in his first ever PGA Tour Champions victory.
In all at Pebble Beach this week, Exotics clubs were in play by the winner, the 4th and 5th place finishers as well as two 9th place finishers for a total of five Exotics Top 10 finishes.
The victory earned Exotics clubs their 6th win of the 2018 PGA Tour Champions season on top of nine runner-up finishes.
With 15 total wins and runner-up placements, Exotics clubs have now finished 1st or 2nd in 65% of the Champions events played this season.
Fourteen total Exotics clubs were put into play this week (seven hybrids, five fairway woods and two iron-woods) according to the Darrell Survey.
Exotics staffer Duffy Waldorf finished 4th at Pebble Beach Sunday at 8-under-par playing an Exotics CBX 16-degree hybrid. Waldorf has collected three Top 10 finishes and 13 Top 25 finishes with his Tour Edge hybrid this season.
The 5th place finisher is another non-endorsed player who also played the same club as the winner, a 15 degree Exotics CBX 3-wood. The player has earned two Top 10’s and three Top 25’s in four events after putting the Exotics 3-wood in his bag.
Tied for ninth at the famed Pebble Beach were two Exotics hybrid staff players, Scott McCarron with his 19 degree CBX and Scott Dunlap with an 18 degree CBX hybrid.
The Top 10 finish for McCarron moved him from second to first on the Charles Schwab Cup standings with four events left in the season. There is just one event before the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs begin. McCarron has earned wins at the American Family Insurance Championship and the Shaw Charity Classic and a total of 12 Top 10 finishes, all with Exotics in the bag.

The PURE Insurance winner finished with a score of 10-under-par to earn $315,000 in his 18th PGA Tour Champions start. He moved to No. 20 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings with the victory. The former UCLA player gained his PGA Tour Champions card by finishing 4th at the 2018 Q-school.
“Just, wow!” said the winner of the PURE Insurance Championship. “I’m a little speechless right now, a lot going on. It was a hard round for me, but I fought back, and to be able to eagle the last hole, just unreal.”
There have been six winners on the 2018 PGA Tour Champions playing Exotics: Sunday’s winner at the PURE Insurance, two-time winner McCarron at the Shaw Charity Classic Sept. 2nd and the American Family Insurance Championship June 24th, Bart Bryant at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on August 19th, Tom Lehman at the Principal Charity on June 10th and the non-endorsed winner of the 2018 Chubb Classic in February.
On top of the six victories and nine runner-up finishes, players using Tour Edge clubs have earned 31 Top 5 finishes and 54 Top 10 finishes in 23 events played this season on the PGA Tour Champions.
Eight players ranking in the Top 35 of the Charles Schwab Cup money standings are currently playing Exotics metalwoods: McCarron in 1st, Tim Petrovic at 10th , Lehman at 16th, the PURE Insurance winner at 20th, Waldorf at 24th, Bryant at 25th, Rocco Mediate at 29th and Dunlap at 33rd.
The PGA Tour Champions season continues Oct. 12th with the SAS Championship in Cary, North Carolina.
