XXIO 13 Driver Review

XXIO 13 Driver

The new XXIO 13 driver is the latest iteration of the premium drivers from XXIO. It offers a lightweight design to promote exceptional speed, distance, and forgiveness. If you’re a slower swinger (think sub-90 mph club speed), and want to add some distance to your game, then then XXIO 13 driver might be for you!

The Looks

The XXIO 13 driver features a sleek chrome, blue and gold color scheme. The crown of the club is painted in a nice navy blue with gold alignment aid and accents, to compliment the chrome finished face, giving a very simple, yet classic look. Then there are new ActivWing aerodynamic “slots” on the crown. These help to square the club face and to find the sweet spot easier. The sole features the same color scheme with predominantly blue and chrome finishes, with gold accents.  The sole also features a single weight port and minimal badging, giving it a simple, yet sophisticated look.

How Does it Feel?

The first thing you’ll notice with the XXIO 13 driver is how incredibly light, yet balanced it feels. A light club head, lighter shaft, and counterbalanced weight in the butt section give it this feel. When you pick up the XXIO 13, it can give you the confidence that you’ll generate some club head speed. In addition to gaining speed, the light nature of the driver is designed to help slower swingers maintain that club head speed throughout the round, and eliminate fatigue that may develop as a result of playing a heavier driver. So if you’re looking for a lighter driver to inspire confidence and gain some speed, the XXIO 13 might fit the bill.

How Does it Sound?

Most shots from XXIO 13 driver give off a slightly louder “crack” or “tink” type sound. I attribute this to the lightweight construction and the Flat Cup Titanium face, which would give off a louder sound by design. At lower swing speeds, a louder sound can make a big difference to the player. What our testers linked that too is a feeling of the ball exploding off of the face. That sound gave my testers more confidence that the ball is going further.

On-Course Performance

In a world where club manufactures gear their equipment towards faster swingers and big distance, XXIO has really found a great niche for helping slower swings see some distance gains, too. The XXIO 13 driver continues to live up to this providing solid performance on the course.

The XXIO 13 driver is packed full of technology to help all aspects of your driving game if you have moderate swing speed. Most notably, the Biflex Face and Rebound Frame seem to be the biggest contributors to the performance of the XXIO 13. The rebound frame helps the ball “jump” off of the face and generate more ball speed, while the Biflex Face helps with off-center strikes. This lined up to what our testers gave as feedback.

One tester touted that the XXIO 13 make it “like the ball is springing off of the face” and gave them the feel of “picking up a ton of club speed” due to the light weight. Our other tester said it feels “flat out easier to get the ball in the air. I normally struggle to get my drives off of the ground, but the lighter club makes it feel effortless.” Both testers saw improved distance due to faster club head speeds, higher launch angles than their current drivers, and a feeling of the club being “easy to swing”. At the end of testing, it left both testers wanting to swap out their current games in favor of the lightweight XXIO 13. I’m not sure there’s much better feedback to give than that.
