Big Max Dri Lite Seven Stand Bag Review

Big Max Dri Lite Seven Stand Bag

During the golf boom of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had a massive reawakening for walking my rounds of golf. At first, the issue was forced while the world figured out how to safely utilize motorized carts. Once carts were allowed again, I realized how much more I enjoyed walking. This often included a push cart, but it also regularly involved throwing the bag over my shoulder and hoofing it. Naturally, I decided I need a new bag for my walking rounds. Something that would be an all-around performer, but a light and easy carry. That’s what led me to the new Big Max Dri Lite Seven stand bag.

Designed to be compact and durable with enough space to carry 14 clubs and all the necessities, the Dri Lite Seven is a great carry option at an affordable price point.

The Looks

When I first opened the box to the Big Max Dri Lite Seven, the very first thing that entered my mind was “streamlined”. This bag really is the perfect size in terms “everything you need, nothing you don’t”. It has a clean minimalist profile that seems to blend right into your body while carrying it.

For colors, you have the always classic black and red pictured in this review as well as a navy and orange that’s really nice, and a clean white/navy/red combo that looks sharp. I’m a big fan of how Big Max found the right blend of branding and color pop to create awareness, but not scream out for over-the-top attention. In my opinion, this the Dri Lite Seven is one of their better looking bags.

Design & Features

Part of being a compact walker’s bag is that features will be fairly minimal and there’s only so much room. However, the Big Max Dri Lite Seven finds a way to still sneak in some pretty good ones. First and foremost, it’s designed to be light and it only weighs a whopping 3.75 pounds! This makes for a very easy carry. A lot of these super light bags save weight by utilizing less durable materials that can be somewhat flimsy. In the case of the Dri Lite Seven, the bag’s material is sturdy and will hold up to regular walking use just fine.

In order to keep a bag as light as possible, you need to minimize storage. That said, you still need enough room for balls, tees, gloves, driver tools, maybe a quarter zip, and an adult soda. The Dri Lite Seven has four pockets including a full-length apparel pocket down the side, a lined valuables pocket, a ball pocket on the spine, and a cooler pocket that can also double as additional storage. I found these pockets to provide plenty of space for the basics needed during a round of golf.

The small unsung heroes of this bag are worth pointing out too. All of the zippers are high quality with water “resistant” seams. “Resistant” meaning they’ll keep water out in most rainy conditions you’d actually golf in, but may not be fully waterproof if you throw your bag in that lake just off the fairway. There’s also a velcro patch to attach your glove to, an umbrella mount to hold the best umbrella in the biz, and a leg lock strap to keep the legs from deploying when using your favorite Big Max push cart.

On-Course Performance

If I’m being totally honest, the Big Max Dri Lite Seven was by far one of the easiest carries I’ve ever had in a stand bag. It’s comfortable on your body and easy to maneuver on and off your shoulder. There’s no greater underrated hero in golf bags than the integrated plastic handle at the top of the bag. This really helps make it easier to quickly pick up as well as an easy swing the bag off of your shoulder. Also helping this easy on/off transition is the high-density foam backpack strap system. These straps were both comfortable and easy to maneuver for a smooth walking experience.

Also remember that the Dri Lite is designed to be a practical minimalist carry bag that holds only what you need. 14 clubs will certainly fit adequately in the 7.3-inch four-way top, but it’s a tight fit. Other bags in this area of the “small bag” market will struggle to fit 14 clubs, but the Dri Lite Seven will allow you to carry your full set with you while maintaining a small profile. This bag simply isn’t meant to be overloaded with a bunch of extra clubs and shafts when you’re heading out for a review/testing session.

Final Thoughts – Big Max Dri Lite Seven Stand Bag

Golf bags tend to be one of the most subjective pieces of gear in the game. What makes a bag good for one player can be totally irrelevant to another player. I was looking for a bag that felt extremely natural every time I took it to the course. It had to be practical, comfortable, easy to maneuver, and hold all of the necessities for a full round of golf. The Big Max Dri Lite Seven delivered just that. If you’re a walker looking for a reliable stand bag that will last, check out the Dri Lite Seven. At $180, it’s easily one of the most appealing stand bags on the market for walkers.

Smashing ‘Water Resistant Bag’, but no rain hood is a problem as this leaves a massive hole that lets in water when raining!
