Cobalt Q-6 Slope Rangefinder Review

Cobalt Q-6 Slope Rangefinder

Cobalt Golf is a newer brand with over twenty-five years in the rangefinder business. With extensive experience around creating and marketing premium rangefinders, Cobalt Golf was established as direct to consumer brand offering the very best technology and quality at a better price point. The Cobalt Q-6 slope rangefinder has everything you want in a premium device at a reasonable $450.

Out of the Box

Setup for the Cobalt Q-6 Slope rangefinder is pretty straightforward. Just open the box and the rangefinder is in the hardshell case. The Q-6 rangefinder comes with a battery, but make sure you open the door and remove the red disc before your first use. There’s even a sticker on the side to remind you, just in case. From there, you just need to choose a few personal preferences. First, choose whether you want to display distances in yards or meters. This can be done by pushing the button on the wheel on the side of the device. Speaking of the wheel, it’s used to dial in the brightness of the “Brilliant Project Display” to your liking. Of course, if you want to play with slope, just flip the slope switch on the side. That’s it, nice and easy!

Features

I touched on a few of the Cobalt Q-6 Slope rangefinder’s features already above, but we’ll dive in deeper in this section. First and foremost is the slope technology. This gives you a distance to your target adjusted for elevation. When you’re in slope mode, it’s clearly indicated by a red light on the side of the device. You can switch slope off making the Q6-Slope tournament legal.

The Q-6 Slope also features PinSense technology. This works with the Surge technology to distinguish a target from background objects, lock onto it, and provide a vibration when the target is acquired. Accuracy is guaranteed to be within .5 yards up to 300 yards. (Max measurable distance is 600 yards.)

The premium optics used have 7x magnification with Brilliant Projection Display. This is designed to give you a crisp and clear view with a vivid display.

It’s also worth noting that the Q-6 Slope’s aluminum and magnesium body is waterproof (let’s not try sending it to the bottom of a lake to test) and comes with a fully transferable lifetime warranty.

On-Course Performance

Most golfers mainly want their rangefinders to be accurate and fast. The Cobalt Q-6 Slope was accurate as far as I could tell testing against multiple other rangefinders and GPS. PinSense worked quickly in grabbing a target and giving a Surge once locked on. Additionally, I like a rangefinder to be comfortable in my hands and easy to handle. The Q-6 Slope fits that bill just fine.

I also want my rangefinders to have as crystal clear and vivid of optics as possible. Cobalt Golf takes their optics/lens game serious. The lenses are made of a premium multi-coated glass and the adjustable diopter gives you a nice clean view of your target.

Final Thoughts – Cobalt Q-6 Slope Rangefinder

I personally think the rangefinder space has become somewhat difficult to navigate. All of the big boys are still making really nice stuff, but it’s going to cost you. Then there’s the whole “budget” market based on racing to the “price floor” with minimally acceptable materials for a mediocre product as long as it doesn’t cost much. But there’s definitely a hole in the market where people still want great quality and premium materials, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg. That’s where Cobalt Golf comes in. The Cobalt Q-6 Slope rangefinder provides an option that competes with the quality of the premium market, but allows you to save some money with their direct to consumer price point. So if you’re willing to make an investment on a solid rangefinder, but may as well save a few bucks, Cobalt Golf’s rangefinders are worth your consideration.
