Club Graveyard 1

You Never Know What You Might Find in Uncle Bill’s Club Graveyard…

The Graveyard

Good friend of the progremme, JRiv of Kris McEwen Dot Com fame, will often stop by my house whether it’s for a quick regrip, an adult soda or two, or whatever else when you live five minutes away in the midst of a global pandemic where outdoor social distancing is encouraged.  Ole Josh also loves to learn about different golf equipment, gear evolution, and stories about all the brands.  This naturally leads to him scanning through the boxes and bags of random gear in my garage, aka, the golf club graveyard.  Of course, he always unearths something that I don’t even know is hiding in there.  As I’m gripping some clubs the other day, I just hear, “hey, what’s this 50º Cobra wedge?”

The real answer is, “I have no idea” so I ask “what Cobra wedge?”  Josh tells me it looks brand new.  I look up and sure enough it’s a brand new Cobra Tour Trusty gap wedge that I had sitting around.  Then I took the club from him, torched the tags off of it (well, kinda) and we had one of these moments:

Take it home with you, Josh, my sweet nephew.  Then he asks how I’ve never played this wedge before, and like so many pieces of gear, there’s a story about how the plans just changed.  I had to think, but I remembered that there was a time I was full Cobra in the bag and I decided I was going to go all Cobra wedges, but before the gap wedge even had a chance to go in the bag, I went with a different setup (added a fairway wood, pulled a wedge).  The wedge was officially relegated to the graveyard waiting to be rediscovered.

Moral of the Story

The moral of the story, as Josh has learned, is that I’m a good friend to have.  Ok, I’m kidding, but with all the gear accumulated, if a pal needs something from the graveyard that isn’t leaving anytime soon, I’ll help ’em out.  You never know what you might find in my stuff.  Between the site itself and years of gear trading, it adds up fast.  If you’re reading this still, it’s likely you know exactly what I’m talking about.

The moral of this story for me?  Man, pay attention to what you have in the garage and don’t be afraid of a little spring cleaning.  Or as Josh’s Uncle Kris suggests, maybe get creative with an art project???  Stay tuned for that future post from the golf club graveyard.  Oh, and before I forget, anyone looking for an assortment of mixed hybrid shaft adapters from five years ago?
