I took a brief trip to Wisconsin between Christmas and the New Year to get a change of scenery with the family. One of the days while I was staring off into space, I was thinking about how much I’ve really enjoyed quite a few different pieces of gear over this past golf season. So given the spirit of reflection that comes with this time of year, I figured it was a good time to tip my cap to some of those items and give them the credit they deserve. That’s not to say there isn’t a lot more that I loved from this season, but this list of equipment especially stood out to me. Without further ado, allow me to share with you my favorite golf gear of 2023!
Edel EAS 5.0 Putter
I was fortunate enough to swing through Edel HQ in Denver, Colorado around the start of the 2023 golf season on the tail end of a work trip. While I was there, the guys ran me through a quick putter fitting that changed everything for me. After about two seconds into my fitting, it was clear that the Edel EAS 5.0 putter was the one. It was the best I’ve aimed a putter in a long time and led to easily the best season I’ve had on the greens in a long time. That’s not to say that my beloved Scott Readman Concepts IKB2 isn’t great, but your boy (that’s me) just isn’t as good controlling a putter as he thinks he is…
The Edel’s EAS 5.0 is a very forgiving mallet that’s extremely smooth through the swing and easy to control. With all of the different weight placements from the fitting, it’s incredible how automatic the EAS 5.0 made putting for me. I’ll never say never, because I’m a raging golf nerd, but it’s going to take a lot for this one to come out of my bag. If I’m being honest, the Edel EAS 5.0 putter was probably the most significant piece of equipment in 2023 for me. As such, I will award it my favorite piece of golf gear of 2023.

Scott Readman Concepts Putter Covers
I can’t tell you how difficult it was for me emotionally to switch to a different putter from my previously mentioned Scott Readman Concepts IKB2. The bond I’ve had with that putter for years was as strong as you could ever imagine. Everyone at SRC has been so great to me over the years and their loyalty and support even predates this website. So fortunately for me, when I switched to my new putter, I had a nice assortment of rare and custom Scott Readman Concepts putter covers to choose from. These guys do incredible work whether its one of their own ranges or a custom cover based on your own design requests. You can’t go wrong with a Scott Readman Concepts putter cover.

Sun Mountain Mid-Stripe Stand Bag
Loyal followers of this site and my close friends are well aware that I have a golf bag problem. I just can’t resist a cool golf bag, what can I say? So when Sun Mountain announced the Mid-Stripe family, I knew I was going to need one. The vintage vibe with all of the modern design elements were a perfect combination. Admittedly, it is a heavier stand bag, but it’s absolutely worth those few extra ounces. Generally speaking, this was my go-to bag for 2023 and will likely keep its place in 2024. That is, unless Sun Mountain somehow comes out with something else that I HAVE to have.

Rhoback Summit Fleece Pullover
First and foremost, apologies for the low quality picture, but the best I could produce at the time of writing this was to grab a screenshot from when Kris and I opened the Rhoback Summit fleece on an episode of That Range Life. (Don’t forget to subscribe here!) The Summit fleece is a new endeavor for Rhoback and it’s incredibly warm and comfortable. It’s become a staple for me as we enter the frigid months of Chicago’s winter. We’ll see how long it holds me over while we wait for the temperatures to hit Arctic lows because I plan on getting my use out of it!

Fujikura Axiom Graphite Irons Shafts
I’m not a graphite iron guy. I’m just not. Don’t get me wrong, I can adjust and hit them pretty well, but in the long run, we’re just never a good match. However, things are different with the Fujikura Axiom shafts. The combination of a smooth and clean feeling with the stability and control, courtesy of VeloCore technology best known from the Ventus line, is really impressive. My swing is definitely more on the aggressive side in regards to tempo which typically doesn’t match up well with graphite iron shafts. With the Axiom, it was a totally different story and they have stayed installed in a set of irons all season long. I won’t say I’ve committed to them as gamers yet, but they’ve been convincing enough to have as my first backup if I need a significant change.
In short, I was super impressed with the Axiom and think it might be the best graphite iron shaft in the game.

Clinch Tactile Golf Gloves
Second only to my Edel putter above, the Clinch Tactile golf gloves were at the top of my list of favorite golf gear of 2023. These gloves are made from a material that lasts longer, doesn’t get slippery when wet, and you can just throw them in the laundry to clean them. (Just make sure to air dry them.) They’re extremely comfortable, breath well, and perform. Yeah, it’s just a golf glove, but I regularly sing their praises to anyone who will listen. Easily the best gloves in golf.

Cobra Aerojet LS Driver
When I first received the Cobra Aerojet LS driver, I didn’t get along well with it at all. The stock MCA Kai’li White and I were a terrible match, but I could tell there was something special in this club head. Now, I had no intentions in rushing into any new woods this season, let alone my driver, but the data spoke for itself. Once I got situated with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue in the Aerojet LS driver, the rest was history. My dispersion was really tight, but my stock flight was about as powerful as I could ask for.
Don’t get me wrong, I hit a handful of drivers great at the start of the season, but the Cobra Aerojet LS really stood out once I got the right shaft installed. This one will be tough to kick out of my bag in 2024. Of course, I’m ALWAYS up for the challenge…

Tour Edge Exotics C723 Fairway Wood
I’m a big Tour Edge metalwoods loyalist. They’ve been in my bag almost exclusively for the past three seasons (I think, close enough) across all my woods. In 2022, I was going through a bit of a battle getting dialed in with my 3 wood. The Tour Edge Exotics E722 fairway wood ultimately made a late season push to solve all of my problems. I mean, I was hitting my 3 wood better than I have in a LONG time. The combo of the E722 head and a Ventus TR Red was just perfect. Well, over the 2023 season, I found that combo started launching too high and spinning too much for me. This adds up on paper, and I’m sure my swing changed, but I needed to find something else.
So one day I texted Kris McEwen as he had my 15º Exotics C723 fairway wood. I asked him, “hey, I need to do some fairway wood tinkering, any chance I grab that club from you?” Well, I got it back, threw a Ventus TR Blue shaft in it and I was hitting missiles with an air-tight dispersion. I figured it was just a fluke as any new change usually is, so I kept testing over a few weeks. Further testing would prove the connection between us to be real and I’m really excited about what I’m seeing. I only regret not trying this combination much earlier in this season. Lord knows how many course records I would have broken…

Sub 70 659 Irons
Ok, so this one isn’t really fair for my favorite golf gear of 2023, but since I’m writing this, I can make up the rules. The fact is, I get to try out a lot of really great golf clubs whether it’s through the website, or from friends who are as big of gear nerds as I am. But I can’t tell you how often I think to myself, “man, I absolutely love my Sub 70 659 irons”. They feel incredible, look great, and excel when it comes to performance. Oh, and did I mention that they feel incredible? All three 659 irons (CB, TC, and MB) are forged out of an extremely soft DT-4 steel, which I can only assume is the secret to the success.
I’ve had my Sub 70 659 combo set in my bag for two seasons now. There have been a couple flirtations with different iron sets, but I always end up back in my 659s. Unless my game drastically changes, I anticipate they’ll firmly hold onto their position for a third season in 2024.

TRUE linkswear All Day Knit 3 Shoes
My TRUE linkswear loyalty is consistently documented on this website, so a shoe of theirs popping into my favorite golf gear of 2023 shouldn’t be a surprise. I honestly think I’d say the TRUE linkswear LUX Hybrid is actually my favorite model from the brand for golfing, but the amount of hours I put on my All Day Knit 3s off the course cements their spot on this list. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good picture of my trusty blacked out “Dead Golfer” All Day Knit 3s which were a limited release in the fall of 2023. They’re by far my favorite pair of TRUE linkswear shoes in my closet right now.

Final Thoughts – Favorite Golf Gear of 2023
This list of my favorite golf gear of 2023 is in no particular order. The truth is, I really liked a lot of the gear I encountered this season. The gear listed above was just a few of the important highlights worth sharing. Who knows what 2024 will hold? I’ve seen some pretty cool leaks on the forums and some in-hand prototypes, but I’m sure that barely scratches the surface. Like the rest of you, I’m excited to see what all rolls out this year. ESPECIALLY in the golf ball space with all of the rollback drama! So good luck to all of you in 2024, and may all of your golf gear addictions be well supported!
